The Academic Advisor in the MSW Program Office provides support and guidance to students in the MSW program. Duties will include: 1) Academic counseling of MSW students to address difficulties or concerns in the program 2) monitoring electronic student records, 3) advising students on their learning plans and career goals, 4) monitoring student progress toward their degree, 5) coordinating and implementing additional supports for online students to be determined, 6) advising support for online courses, 7) monitoring and reporting program statistics, and 8) assisting in other efforts as needed to support the MSW Program office [i.e. create and update MSW course plans; engagement and outreach with prospective dual degree students and oversee the thesis research process] 9) assist in training new MSW program staff on advising policies and procedures 10) facilitate weekly/bi-monthly advisor committee meetings; 11) manage dual degree programs; 12) develop and implement new dual degree options; 13) advise MSW-PhD students; 14) lead and assist the GA with MSW newsletter; 15) co-advise GA in creation of CSW Visionaries events during recruitment season.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field. 4 years of relevant experience required.
Desired Requirements:
Master's Level Degree with a Major in social work. The successful candidate for this position would have an MSW and at least two years post-MSW social work, with licensed experience preferred.
Knowledge of College of Social Work curriculum and MSW program at Ohio State University. Knowledge of Student Information System (SIS).
Other desired qualifications include strong organizational skills, experience with online education, comfort using skype and zoom for virtual communication, experience with Microsoft Office software and electronic records, and a commitment to customer service. Candidates with strong writing skills, a student-centered approach, the ability to be self-directed and efficient, and a commitment to social work education are desired.
Responsibilities:
40% Academic counseling of MSW students to address difficulties or concerns in the program; monitoring electronic student records; advising students on their learning plans and career goals; monitoring student progress toward their degree; coordinating and implementing additional supports for online students to be determined; advising support for online courses.
30% Assist in the training of new MSW Program Staff on advising policies and procedures; facilitate weekly/bi-monthly advisor committee meetings.
15% Coordinate dual-degree and specialized programs with relevant academic units; assist the Director in developing additional collaborative academic programming; advise MSW-PhD students. Participate in engagement and outreach with prospective dual degree students.
10% Work collaboratively with the Program Office Team to co-advise GA in creation of CSW Visionaries events during recruitment season; lead and assist the GA with MSW newsletter.
5% Assist the MSW Program Director and Assistant Program Director in the monitoring and reporting of program statistics, assisting in other efforts as needed to support the MSW Program office [i.e. create and update MSW course plans]; oversee the thesis research process.
Please note, this position is located at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. The position is a hybrid position based on business needs and departmental workload.
The salary range for this position begins at $49,800. Actual compensation commensurate with candidate's experience, education, and equity review.
