      Job Description

      GENERAL SUMMARY

      Set up and produce a quality and acceptable multiwire cable.

      PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      1. Responsible for set-up and operation of multiwire drawing machine.
      2. Responsible for correct wire sizes, lengths, and directions of lays of multiwire cable.
      3. Responsible for loading and unloading sets of bobbins/reels whether they are matched lengths or matched sets.
      4. Responsible for making all pay-off bobbin/reel changes and take-up reel changes.
      5. Responsible for making hot-welds and kold-welds.
      6. Responsible for maintaining a layer wound package.
      7. Responsible for a correct inventory of WIP tags daily.
      8. Responsible to observe Southwire safety rules, maintain good housekeeping and perform all other duties assigned.

      PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

      1. Must be able to read and interpret production orders.
      2. Must be able to anticipate when payoff bobbins/reels are running low.
      3. Must make judgments concerning quality of individual wires, finished cable, and bobbins/reels.
      4. Operator must be able to follow instructions.
      5. Operator should be in good physical condition.

      WORKING CONDITIONS

      1. Normal plant conditions, operator constantly exposed to fairly high level of noise. Hearing protection is required.
      2. Operator is standing, bending, or walking continuously. Some effort is required positioning full bobbins/reels. Operator is constantly walking, climbing, bending and pushing. Rolling and set-up of reels requiring a force of 140 pounds is required.

      ENVIRONMENTAL/SAFETY/QUALITY

      1. Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact.
      2. Follow prescribed safety rules/procedures so as to prevent injury to self and others and to maintain safe equipment and conditions in entire area of responsibility.
      3. Seek the assistance and advice of safety representatives on matters concerning safe practices, policies and/or procedures and give personal support to all safety activities and procedures.
      4. Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      1. High school diploma, or equivalent, is required.
      2. Must be able to read and write. Math encountered is addition, multiplication, fractions, and decimals.
      3. Operator should be able to perform satisfactorily in three to six weeks.
