      About the Position: Serves as a Museum Curator of a Department of Army Museum.

      Duties


      • Responsible for long-range planning, development, coordinating and administering all matters pertaining to the museum operation.
      • Assists in creating an operating budget and coordinates the expenditure of appropriated funds.
      • Responsible for administering, maintaining and managing the historic properties collection in conjunction with museums.
      • Ensures proper storage, security, and protection of the collection items.
      • Conducts systematic research into the development and interpretation of Army historical collections.
      • Conducts museum briefings for military personnel on the history of the service.
      • Responsible for attendant research, documentation, and content of labels in the exhibit galleries.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • Position may require temporary duty (TDY) business travel.
      • Lifting requirement of 20 pounds.

      In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.       Basic Requirement for Museum Curator:

      A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies, Art History, Museum Management, Curatorial Studies, Design for Exhibition or Museums, Conservation Studies.

      OR

      B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

      OR

      C. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above.

      In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

      Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes;1.) Overseeing historical research on diverse historical collections of artifacts and associated materials; 2.) Identifying appropriate research sources to assist researchers and facilitate scholarly publications on historical collections; 3.) Ensuring historical accuracy and correlation of displays, exhibits, and artifact cataloging. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
