      Position Summary

      The San José Museum of Art has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Museum Store Sales Associate. The Museum Store Sales Associate is part of a small team of creative and dedicated museum professionals and works closely with Museum Store volunteers in delivering exceptional customer service. Candidates must be available weekends and evenings and have full availability during the holiday season. The normal schedule for this position is Friday-Sunday, 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, and every first Friday of the month until 9:30pm, or later as requested.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Provide exceptional customer service by providing a welcoming and friendly environment; proactively engage and interact with each visitor.
      • Swift and efficient execution of sales transactions utilizing a point-of-sale system.
      • Achieve daily/monthly sales goals.
      • Exhibition of comprehensive product knowledge and a firm grasp of store operations, policies, and procedures
      • Demonstrate knowledge of museum offerings, events, and ongoing and upcoming programs
      • Oversight of minimal supervision of shift volunteers.
      • Assist in display maintenance and housekeeping
      • Assist in processing and replenishing merchandise and monitoring floor stock levels.
      • Provide guidance, assistance , and instructions to visitors in case of emergency.
      • Ability to work with little supervision.
      • Availability throughout the peak holiday shopping season, spanning from November 1st to December 31 st
      • Contribution to the annual inventory count, scheduled for the last week in June.
      • Capability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
      • Additional related duties as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
      • Experience with retail sales, museum, hospitality, and/or with the public in a face-to-face capacity .
      • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
      • Punctual ity and adheres to scheduled hours

      Education and/or Experience

      • High School diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • Previous experience in retail sales

      Special Requirements

      • Ability to work weekends and evenings, with full availability during the holiday season.
      • Fingerprint clea rance and background check is required .
      • Ability to work during set calendar days for training and events as well as evenings and weekends are required.
      • An understanding of working with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
      • Experience using point-of-sale software and equipment.
      • E xperience with Microsoft Office.
      • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
