Job summary
Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has one CT level vacancy in the division of surgery available to start immediately. The post is to commence in general surgery until February 2024. Our posts rotate in February 2024. These allocations are yet to be decided in the following surgical specialties: general surgery, orthopaedics, or plastic surgery from February 2024 to August 2024.
At the time of interview, there may be a possibility of more than one CT level post becoming available in any of our surgical specialties within the trust, to start in February 2024 until August 2024.
This post is an ideal steppingstone for trainees between their FY2 and formal national core training rotational posts or for those trainees wishing to augment their experience prior to ST3 applications. We offer opportunities for applicants to develop skills and build on their portfolio. Our post combines education and career development with practical patient-facing care.

Main duties of the job
The post holderwill work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the service.Duties include ward rounds, assisting the consultants and senior trainees in the operating theatre, undertaking the pre and post-operative care of patients on the wards, attending out-patient clinics and attending to referrals in the Emergency Department.The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmental teaching every week. They will also be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education and study leave will be available as per the Trust policy.
These posts are ideally suited to those looking to augment their portfolio for career progression any surgical specialties.
You will be based at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield with potential peripheral sessions at Dewsbury District Hospital and Pontefract Hospital. You will be expected to work within the department of plastic surgery.
The post will be part of a full time junior trainee (FY/CT) rota which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 junior doctors contract, averaging 48 hours per week.

Teaching
Numerous opportunities to teach medical students and junior doctors as formal sessions or informally. Training the trainers courses are available externally and occasionally in-house.
