      Job Summary

      The Maintenance Support Technologist is responsible for providing the timely and cost-effective maintenance, calibration, and repair of a large number of complex electronic modules and test instruments that support the service of essential Air Navigation System (ANS) operational electronic systems and equipment nationally. They are highly motivated, well versed in technology and able to work in a group and alone.

      Key Accountabilities

      • Performing second and third level maintenance services on Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) equipment, electronic modules, test instruments and circuit boards that have failed or require calibration in service at Air Navigation System operational field sites ensuring an appropriate sparing quantity level.
      • Ensures an effective and efficient maintenance support capability for the repair and calibration of ANS equipment, test instruments and electronic modules from existing and future ANS operational systems.
      • Ensures the integrity, accuracy, and serviceability of NCL (National Calibration Lab) / CRF (Central repair facility) equipment.
      • Participates in the life-cycle management of ANS equipment, test instruments and ANS operational electronic systems.
      • Provides technical support and expertise in the use of various specialized tools and techniques for diagnosing and repairing ANS equipment, test instruments and other modules and circuit boards.

      Education

      • Successful completion of secondary school and completion of a full-time post-secondary program in electronics technology (technologist) at a recognized institution or equivalent.

      Experience

      • Minimum 5 years Experience in the maintenance of solid-state equipment and modules.
      • Experience in operating and maintaining computer-controlled equipment.
      • Experience in component replacement and module rework (soldering skills).
      • Experience in creating and documenting test and calibration procedures.

      Knowledge (weighting 30%)

      • In depth knowledge and experience in electronic circuitry design, troubleshooting, tuning / calibration, and repair of ANS equipment and test instruments.
      • In depth knowledge of repairing current ANS systems, computer hardware, programming, and electrical metrology.
      • Knowledge of General principles which apply to calibration and repair of all test instruments and spare ANS equipment modules.
      • Knowledge of Calibration and repair of test instruments, test stations and spare modules currently used by NAV CANADA technical staff.

      Abilities (weighing 30%)

      • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex electronic circuitry.
      • Ability to analyze, modify and generate test software.
      • Ability to operate computer-controlled systems.
      • Ability to develop calibration and test procedures.
      • Ability to evaluate test instruments and test stations.
      • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
      • Ability to rework circuit boards, including soldering.

      Working Conditions:

      • Work may require physically demanding tasks such as standing, bending, lifting, and operating machinery.
      • This position is based at Ottawa Logistic center. This position has been classified as onsite.
