      Job summary

      We are looking for motivated and caring Ambulance Drivers to join the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Barts Health.

      Our NEPTS is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. All requests for patient transport are assessed on medical need. Transport is only provided for patients coming from their home addresses to North East London NHS Trust locations. Transport is also provided for patients going home from a North East London NHS Trust locations to a booked address stated by the ward or clinic anywhere in the mainland UK.

      The NEPTS Ambulance Driver performs a key role in providing a safe transport service for patients requiring transport to and from the Trust's hospitals ensuring that all patients are transported in a timely manner in comfort and with minimal stress. The Ambulance Drivers are also responsible for conducting dynamic risk assessments of patients and/or their environment before they are transported in non-emergency situations.

      Main duties of the job

      Our Non-Emergency patient transport service is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. All requests forpatient transport are assessed on medical need. Transport is only provided for patients coming from their home addresses to North East London NHS Trust locations. Transport is also provided for patients going home from a North East London NHS Trust locations to a booked address stated by the ward or clinic anywhere in the mainland UK. Patient transport vehicles operate with appropriate staff and equipment. As patients have diverse needs, we provide a range of vehicles such as cars, ambulances with wheelchair-securing facilities and stretcher vehicles.

      The Patient Transport Ambulance driver provides a driving service for patients requiring transport to and from the Trust's hospitals ensuring that all patients are transported in comfort, with a minimum of stress in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and the required level of competence. Duties to include the movement of patients by using wheelchairs carry chairs, stretchers and patients that are car suitable. To ensure all vehicles are maintained in a clean and tidy manner and to report immediately any defects or accidents. They are responsible for the assessment of patient before they are transported in non-emergency situations
