      The purpose of this position is to assist in the plan and design of data center systems, to provide centralized virtual and physical server support to assigned departments and/or systems, assist in ensuring the counties wired, wireless network, and telecom architecture and design provide a reliable and efficient network infrastructure, and support Network and Server Administrators to ensure any issues and outages are resolved in a timely manner.

      • Works under direct supervision of Network Administrator or Server Administrator to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
      • Assists in performing network operating system administration for County computer systems, networks, telephones, and peripherals; manages and configures servers to maintain updates; backs up and monitors event logs; analyzes event logs and identifies potential problems; checks and maintains connectivity; upgrades servers; adds/deletes computers to/from network; manages user and email accounts and passwords; monitors network settings, network software, and drivers; maintains SQL databases and a variety of software.
      • Assists in the design, development, configuration, maintenance, repair, and/or installation of computer, network, telephone, and related equipment; ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and rules; conducts site survey and workflow analysis to better utilize departmental resources; assist in determination of data center modifications necessary to appropriately locate equipment; prepares user site plans for installations; submits requests for necessary facility modifications such as cable routing, electrical outlets, cooling, and special requirements; maintains security of network and computer systems; assist in performing routine security audits of systems, data, and backups; assist in developing solutions for security breaches; configures authentication, authorization, and directory services.
      • Assists in the maintenance of security of network and computer systems; may assign IP addresses, telephone numbers, and voicemail boxes to devices connected to the network.
      • Support the Network or Server Administrator in managing and configuring switches, routers, wireless, firewalls, and other network equipment ensures network infrastructure is operational and functional; monitors network resources and performs routine audits; applies system updates, patches, and changes; manages switch ports; configures switches and wireless access points; configures firewalls; and maintains VPN and port access.
      • Supports development and implementation of new technology; researches and evaluates computer systems, software, and technology issues; develops technology solutions; advises departments on technology strategies; evaluates departmental information systems and communications requests; works with vendors to implement new and upgrade existing technology.
      • Provides technical support and training to system users regarding operation of hardware and software, telephone, and peripheral equipment, procedures, problems, and related issues; troubleshoots end-user problems; resolves problems; escalates problem to vendors or other personnel as appropriate; ensures continual operations of customers' network applications; utilizes diagnostic tools and other resources as appropriate.
      • Runs a variety of reports from system programs to include status reports on systems projects, as well as ad hoc reports; attends variety of staff meetings, vendor demonstrations, seminars, and training classes to provide and obtain information on systems' activities and developments.
      • Maintains an awareness of new applications, technologies, technical methods, trends, and advances in the profession; reviews professional publications, technical manuals, and web sites to increase knowledge of network operations; attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.
      • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes, and per established procedures; receives and reviews various documentation, including system and parts specifications, network diagrams, and work tickets; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including performance and upgrade reports, and status reports; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
      • Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains switches, routers, servers, testers, meters, and other power or motorized equipment; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e- mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
      • Communicates with County officials, supervisor, other employees, clients, third party service contractors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned.

      Education and Experience:

      Requires a bachelor’s degree in network administration, Information Technology, or related field, or an Associate’s degree plus Microsoft Server Administrator or Cisco CCST Network Security certification; two (2) years of related experience in information technology, network systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


      Licenses or Certifications:

      Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Certifications in VMware Certified Professional (?VCP-DCV 2021), Microsoft Certified (Office 365 or Azure), (CompTIA Server+ or Security+) are highly desired.


      Special Requirements:

      Candidates will be required to complete a competency test.

      • Knowledge of local government operations, Technology Services related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
      • Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.


      WORK ENVIRONMENT

      Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, rain, temperature and noise extremes, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, electric currents, traffic hazards, and bright/dim lights.
