  Athonet - Network system engineer

  This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office.

  Job Description:

  The Network system engineer will contribute to the implementation, documentation and maintenance of the infrastructure for the deployment automation of Private Mobile Network solutions.

  She/He will be part of the Solution Engineering team under Design, Delivery and Support department.

  The candidate selected shall bring deep knowledge of IP and networking and virtualization.

  Working in close collaboration with the Senior Solution Architects of the Solution Engineering team, the Network system engineer will be assisted and trained through an Onboarding Training Path covering 3GPP fundamentals and Athonet Products and Solutions, with focus on the Athonet Unified Network Platform (UNP).

  Responsibilities and Activities

  • ownership of implementation, documentation, and maintenance of the UNP Staging infrastructure.
  • validation of HW platforms for Athonet solutions.
  • validation of UNP migration procedures of legacy Athonet products.
  • shared ownership of the Solution Engineering lab infrastructure.

  Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Linux administration and troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of networking, including
    • TCP/IP implementation
    • Dynamic (BGP) and static routing, and its Linux Implementation
    • VPN and tunnelling technologies (IPSec, GRE)
    • Layer 2 and Layer 3 isolation technologies (VLAN, VRF, …)
    • Layer 2 technologies (Spanning Tree, Bridging, Bonding LACP / active-backup)
  • Knowledge of Virtualization hypervisors
    • VMWare (ESXi, vCenter, …) and its networking implementation
    • KVM and its open-source implementations (proxmox, …)
  • Knowledge of Ansible and Python
  • Experience in setup of hardware testbed in laboratory.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a similar role, e.g.:
    • Network Specialist for ISPs
    • Quality Assurance or Commissioning in mobile networks
    • IT network specialist in structured companies.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

  Nice to Have

  • Experience with performance testing scenarios in telecommunication.
  • Experience in Mobile Telecommunication companies
  • Knowledge of 3GPP 4G/5G and VoLTE/VoNR technologies, protocols and specifications
  • Containerization technologies (docker, podman)
  • Administration of networking device of different vendors (Cisco, Aruba, Dell, Fortinet, Mikrotik)
  • Cabling technologies (SFP, SFP+, QSFP, MTP, Long and short range fibers, …)
  • Fluent in Italian, both written and spoken.
