      Network Technical Specialist General Definition of Work $59,996.40 - $71,676.80 Grade 22 Performs difficult skilled technical work assisting in the installation, operation, network equipment and programs. Work is performed under the regular supervision of an IT Supervisor.


      Network System Admin General Definition of Work: $72,862.40 - $87, 110.40 Grade 26.
      Performs difficult skilled work performing research, evaluation, analysis, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and repair of network systems and programs. Work is performed under the general supervision of an IT Supervisor.

      Network Technical Specialist Essential Functions/ Typical Tasks:

      Troubleshooting, repairing, monitoring and maintaining network and communications hardware and software; installing and upgrading systems; training staff in the operation of systems and related equipment; preparing and maintaining files and records.

      • Installs access points, network switches and access points and voiceover IP phones.
      • Installs and maintains network infrastructure and cabling.
      • configures switches and other network equipment.
      • Performs network tests and analyzes results to verify correct network operation.
      • Responds to network operation inquiries; diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems and escalated issues if needed.
      • Evaluate computer and network performance to ensure sufficient availability or speed, to identify troubleshoot, and repair problems or performs remedial actions, to correct problems.
      • Coordinates activities with help desk, other technology teams, and Departments as required.
      • Provides status updates and job completion information to manager.
      • Documents network, configuration and activities.
      • Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.
      • Troubleshoot, and support public safety equipment and technical functions.
      • Monitor trouble ticket queue and works independently in the field
      • Performs related tasks as required.


      Network System Admin E ssential Functions/Typical Tasks:
      Analyzing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer network systems and programs.
      • Performs inspection of network systems and configurations of network components, evaluation and remediation of programs supporting the network infrastructure.
      • Analyzes network security, infrastructure, voice, wireless and logging.
      • Provides support to and trains team members in network management software and tools
      • Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, syslog, and latency)
      • Some experience with any network monitoring software like Solarwinds NPM & NTA
      • Evaluates network monitoring software and capabilities and makes recommendations.
      • Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoot network stability for data, voice, security and wireless applications. Making recommendations for solutions to the team.
      • Perform recurring backups of networking systems configurations.
      • Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations, voice configurations, wireless configurations, server configurations, cabling layouts and all network system logging.
      • Work under the Engineer to specify system requirements and design solutions
      • Work above a Network Tech and support them in the field for cabling and other troubleshooting of daily workorders. Also needs the Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
      • Performs related tasks as required.


      Network Technical Specialist Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      Thorough knowledge of the operation of personal computers, network equipment and hardware or software procedures and techniques. Some knowledge of general office practices and equipment. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; analyze software programs and program adjustments; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, users, and the general public.



      Network System Admin Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      Thorough knowledge of the evaluation and analyzation of network monitoring systems; thorough knowledge of the methods used in network traffic flow analyzing, Network control software, Network Monitoring Software, analyze software programs and program adjustments. Computer hardware and devices, communication networks and the operation of electronic equipment; skill in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, internet software, e-mail, inventory, database software, Network protocols, TCP/IP; skill in the use of tools in the analysis trade.






      Network Tech Spec Education and Experience:

      Requires graduation from an appropriately accredited associates level degree or higher with course work in management information systems supplemented by courses in electronics and networking or related field and considerable experience in installation, repair and maintenance of local and wide area networks. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

      Management Preferences:

      Net+, CCNA certifications is highly preferred.



      Network System Admin Education and Experience:

      Requires graduation from an appropriately accredited associates level degree or higher supplemented by courses in electronics, networking and data processing. Considerable experience in installation, repair and maintenance of local and wide area networks. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

      Management Preferences:

      Net+, CCNA certifications is highly preferred.



      Special Requirements:

      Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Position is essential as defined by the Inclement Weather Plan. Due to the essential nature of this position, worker must be available for contact and on-site assistance in emergency situations. Must have ability to work a flexible schedule; requires some evening and weekends.



      Physical Requirements:
      This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. Requires frequent use of ladders, occasional work at height and in confined spaces. Typically, the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions, however during the time of an emergency this person will be required to be at work.
