      Main duties of the job

      This salaried GP position involves 6-8 sessions per week, with no weekend or extended hours. You will work autonomously while contributing as part of a collaborative, supportive clinical team.

      Key responsibilities include:

      • Providing high-quality medical services under the PMS contract
      • Assessing and treating a broad range of medical conditions
      • Participating in signposting, clinical supervision, and triage systems
      • Managing referrals, prescriptions, and administrative tasks
      • Attending and contributing to clinical meetings and audits
      • Supporting training for students and GP trainees
      • Engaging with PCN and NHS initiatives to improve care
      • Maintaining accurate records on SystmOne
      • Undertaking occasional home or care home visits

      About us

      We are a Dispensing Practice serving a population of 9,450 patients, operating primarily from Leiston Surgery with a branch in Yoxford.

      We use TPP SystmOne, AccuRx, DXS, and Anima Triage, with full training provided as needed. We hold regular educational sessions for all clinicians and enjoy excellent collaboration with community teams and an active Patient Participation Group (PPG).

      We are a teaching practice with 2 GP trainers and offer strong career development opportunities, including teaching undergraduates from UEA and Cambridge University, and supporting international post-graduate training as a certified training practice.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      To support the GP Partners to manage a busy caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. You will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas and assist in developing healthcare services.

      You will be responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the Leiston Surgery policies and protocols. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

      To facilitate the development of the role, the practice and the individual, all personnel should be prepared to accept additional, or surrender existing duties, to enable the efficient running of the practice.

      Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:

      The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

      Clinical Responsibilities:

      In accordance with the surgery timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

      Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

      Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

      Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

      In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

      Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

      Providing counselling and health education

      Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

      Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards on SystmOne.

      Collecting/entering/coding data for audit purposes, for example practice QOF codes

      Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions avoiding hand written prescriptions whenever possible)

      Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

      In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care

      On a rotational basis, undertake the duty doctor role.

      Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times

      Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required

      Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

      • A Newly Qualified GP having obtained your Certificate of
      • Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice within the last two
      • years, verifying completion of the postgraduate training required to
