Position: Internship
Location: Washington DC or New York- Hybrid Working Model
Deadline: February 19th, 2024
Nature’s news team seeks an ambitious science reporter for a July-December internship – a paid, full-time writing position based in our Washington DC or New York City offices (on a hybrid model). Nature is an international journal publishing ground-breaking research; its newsroom, which is independent, produces must-read stories about science and science policy. Our interns are treated like staff reporters. They cover cutting-edge science, as well as activities at US science agencies. They travel locally for stories as appropriate, and write for both the website and print magazine. Initially, interns will be assigned stories, but ideally, will eventually pitch their own.
Although they primarily cover news, they will have the opportunity to write features. Top candidates will have a strong background in both science and journalism, and should be enthusiastic about writing stories for an audience of researchers, administrators and decision makers. Past interns have gone on to staff positions at Carbon Brief, Chemical & Engineering News, The New York Times, and Nature. News interns will receive an hourly wage of $22.00.Requirements:
To apply: Please submit a cover letter telling us what you’ll bring to the Nature newsroom and what topics you would want to cover, a resume, and 3-5 samples of published journalism that you have written (please submit your clips along with your resume as a single PDF – please do not only submit links to the clips). Samples should include journalism clips or other reported pieces – please do not send scientific papers or other technical writing. Applicants must have an existing right to live and work in the United States.
Applications are due by February 19. Early applications are encouraged.
