In partnership with a major Life Science organization, we are seeking candidates for a summer internship with NGS Bioinformatics team based out of Rockville, MD. This is a 10 week Summer internship for 2024. Expected start date is June 3rd through August 9th, 2024. This is a 40 hour/week - hybrid (onsite ~1 day/week - every other week). We are seeking a motivated and talented Summer Intern with a background in computer science and strong programming skills in Python. The ideal candidate should also possess a basic understanding of biology and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques. The intern will be actively involved in developing automation pipelines to streamline and optimize bioinformatics processes within our organization.

Responsibilities

Your Role:

• Collaborate with the bioinformatics team to understand the current workflow and identify areas for automation improvement.
• Utilize Python programming skills to develop and maintain automation pipelines for data analysis and processing tasks.
• Assist in the integration of various NGS data analysis tools and frameworks into the existing pipeline infrastructure.
• Conduct thorough testing and debugging of the automation scripts to ensure functionality and accuracy.
• Document all processes and codes for easy reference and future use.
• Stay updated with the latest developments in bioinformatics and contribute insights to enhance existing automation processes.

Who You Are:

• Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or related program.
• Proficiency in Python programming and familiarity with relevant libraries and frameworks.
• Basic knowledge of biological concepts and Next-Generation Sequencing techniques.
• strong problem-solving skills and a passion for streamlining processes through automation.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
