      Description

      JOB DESCRIPTION:

      • The Night Pharmacist will prioritize the workload, provide leadership in the absence of an on-site supervisor and organize the workflow of pharmacy technical personnel on the night shift, with a focus on the patient as the primary beneficiary, clinical, educational, informational, and distribution functions on the night shift.
      • Use effective patient education techniques to provide counseling to patients and caregivers including information on drug therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling and drug administration.
      • Identify the requester's actual drug information need and employ a systematic, efficient, and thorough procedure of retrieving drug information.
      • Assure the appropriateness of a medication order including age-specific and organ-specific factors, allergy checking, duplicate checking and drug interaction checking before preparing or permitting the distribution of the first dose.
      • Prepare drug products using appropriate techniques and utilize EMAR Summary to help with scheduling doses, avoiding duplicated doses and correctly initiating change in doses.
      • Ensure the accuracy of records pertaining to controlled substances, medication compounding, prepackaging, and sterile product preparation.
      • Identify the presence of medication therapy problems in patients current medication therapy; develop a plan to prevent or resolve the problem in collaboration with members of the healthcare team.
      • Utilize nomograms and other departmental guidelines when providing medication-related recommendations.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy; licensure or eligibility for licensure in Georgia.
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
      • One year of hospital experience and PGY1 residency preferred.

      • Salary: $61.11-101.82/hour
      • The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. This position is eligible for shift differentials.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required.
