      Position Statement:

      The Sleep Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides care for patients with common sleep disorders, practicing independently within their scope of licensure and expertise. This role primarily focuses on routine follow-up care and management of patients, including managing visits transitioned from physician schedules, and may also include seeing new patients as needed to optimize access.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Reports to the Medical Director for clinical performance, reports to the Practice Manager for administrative functions.
      • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care.
      • Reviews and explains sleep study results to patients.
      • Educates patients and families on sleep health and treatment plans.
      • Supports treatment adherence, including CPAP/BiPAP therapy education and troubleshooting.
      • Maintains timely and accurate documentation for clinical communication and billing.
      • Collaborates with physicians and the entire sleep team to deliver coordinated care.
      • Participates in ongoing learning and professional development, including maintaining CME requirements.
      • Provides on-call coverage to the sleep lab as scheduled.
      • Arranges referrals to other services or specialists as appropriate.
      • Participates in the development and review of department policies and quality improvement initiatives.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      • Completion of an accredited program for Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
      • Appropriate licensing/registration.
      • At least 5 years of experience working as an APP.
      • Ability to work independently within scope of practice and to seek guidance appropriately.
      • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, other health care providers, and care teams.
      • Adheres to professional ethical standards.
      • Adheres to NCH’s standards of behavior and values.
      • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.
      • Strong work ethic and self-motivated approach to learning.
