      Job summary

      The Nursing Support Worker is a vital part of the Multi Disciplinary Team. Acting under the direction of registered nurses, the Nursing Support Worker is responsible for engaging in a variety of interventions with patients. These range from direct, compensatory nursing care, working in accordance with observation and engagement policies, monitoring physical health and engaging in psychosocial interventions in the wider community and in the patient's own home.

      The Nursing Support Worker contributes to the patients' recovery pathway in a number of key ways. They provide the patients with role modelling as regards effective and reciprocal communication and relationships.

      In Secure services the Nursing Support Worker is central to maintaining the necessary balance to ensure that the environment is both therapeutic and secure.

      Multi disciplinary assessments and mutually agreed Care and Treatment Plans rely heavily on information gained via the direct patient contact that the Nursing Support Workers provide.

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will work across secure services in-patient wards and may be required to work adult MH in-patient wards, carrying out tasks involving the following:

      • The post holder will work with individuals with mental health and learning disability needs
      • To foster hope in individuals, promote self management, using the whole person approach towards recovery
      • To support patients during times of emotional distress.
      • To support patients to access and develop self management techniques, being guided by CTPs
      • To actively contribute to the maintenance of an environment that is both therapeutic and secure
      • To ensure that patients are treated with dignity and respect at all times
      • To maintain effective engagement with the patients, family and carers
      • To promote equality and respect the rights of all individuals
      • To contribute to the support and management of individuals throughout the recovery journey

      The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

      • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses
      • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
      • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
      • Ability to be able to complete certified/accredited physical intervention training, for example Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) during induction
