      What are we looking for?

      We are looking to add a Creative Arts Therapist to our team. As the Creative Arts Therapist, you will be responsible for creating a curriculum for Serenity House morning and evening groups, connecting with residents on-site on a regular basis, and supporting professional development of 2nd and 3rd shift residential counselors.

      Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:

      • Prioritizing best practices in person-centered care concerning each resident’s individual dignity and integrity, including their unique goals.
      • Collaborating with the SJCS-NY director and Director of Homeless and Housing Services to provide performance reviews of staff.
      • Working closely with program leadership to ensure compliance with applicable OASAS regulations.
      • Ensuring program and resident confidentiality.
      • Creating a curriculum for therapeutic residential services provided by Serenity House staff.
      • Developing, fostering, and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with residents, their families, and the SJCS team.
      • Assists Residential Counselor staff in their development and understanding of chemically dependent behavior, interviewing skills, group facilitation skills, and therapy techniques.

      Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

      • Applicant must be a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) in good standing with the appropriate licensing or certifying authority. (required)
      • Minimum one year experience in the treatment of addiction and/or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. (required)
      • Excellent interpersonal communication, verbal and written. (required)
      • Fluency with electronic health record utilization and quality compliance standards for documenting client case notes (required)
      • Ability to teach and support residential counseling staff in provision of therapeutic services (required)

      You will stand out if you have the following experience, education, and requirements:

      • Experience in residential services. (preferred)
      • Efficacy with collaborative approach to work alongside clients to empower them to develop their individualized goals. (preferred)
      • Exemplary ability to create, maintain, foster, and (as needed) repair therapeutic relationships with clients. (preferred)
      • Fluidity with de-escalation techniques to be utilized preventatively and proactively with regard to potential client crisis. (preferred)

      All SJCS employees must:

      • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
      • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

      Physical and environmental conditions include:

      • Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort except the normal risks or discomforts.

      The hiring range for this position ranges from $35 to $45 per hour, dependent on experience.
