Job Description

- Assists with obstetrical procedures, including cesarean section, vaginal deliveries, vacuum extraction, forceps deliveries, tubal ligations, dilation and curettage (D&C), circumcisions, and emergency, OB- related abdominal hysterectomies. Maintains knowledge of setups for each procedure.
- Scrubs for obstetrical procedures which includes applying aseptic surgical techniques to create/maintain sterile field, preparing materials equipment and supplies for surgical cases, assisting with gowning and gloving, draping of sterile area, and passing all instruments and supplies.
- Assists with delivery procedures. Prepares area in accordance with obstetric provider preference.
- Assists in direct patient care activities of daily living, comfort and safety needs.
- Serves as a resource for training technicians, RN staff and others in the use of equipment and procedures.
- Maintains stock of sterile, surgical supplies and instruments. Maintains the unit area in readiness for all types of emergencies.
- Maintains, cleans and stocks equipment.
- Reports and/or documents accurate and timely information regarding patient condition to the appropriate person.
- Collaborates with the operating room staff, clinical nurse specialist, educators and peers in preparation for equipment and procedure implementation and emergency situations.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
- Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices., and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
- Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant.
- No experience required.
- Basic computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, use of electronic mail and electronic medical records systems.
- Successfully complete on the job training.
- Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with a variety of patients, family, staff and physicians.
- Good organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, push/ pull with 30 labs. Of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Push or pull 100 lbs.
- Will be required to use foot pedals on carts and machines.
- Will be required to wear protective clothing.
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuing basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during work shift.
- Must have functional sight and hearing.
- Operate all equipment necessary to perform job.
