What you’ll be doing
The Object Intelligence Researcher will be responsible for providing comprehensive research on/updating digital records of high-value works of art by consolidating information from internal and external sources. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of Post-War and Contemporary Art. The ability to successfully analyze a high volume of data and complete complex tasks accurately and with minimal oversight is essential. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and experienced in database management and/or archival practices .
What your day might look like
o Gather in-depth intelligence on artworks using internal and external sources
o Partner with business getters to ensure effective sourcing of objects for auction
o Review, input and consolidate object-related data, continually enhancing Christie’s object database with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
o Create bespoke reports on objects and artists from Christie’s systems to support Specialists’ sourcing and selling efforts
o Prepare and present post-auction debriefs, with a focus on competitive sales
o Monitor and capture high-end market activity at exhibitions, art fairs and galleries, developing knowledge of competitive landscape in the Post-War and Contemporary Art market
o Identify, document, and collate full object research along with complete market and ownership histories of all high value work using catalogue raisonnes and relevant databases to research provenance of works of art
o Act as the loan request representative for EMEA by locating artworks requested for loans and exhibitions
o Become an expert and champion in Christie’s various data systems: Object Finder, COS, etc.
o Provide support to Department Head, Heads of Sale, Client Strategy Lead, and Business Director, as required
o Ensure that all client and object information is logged and maintained in COS and other systems where appropriate.
o Track consignment activity at competitors; partner with business getters to drive a strategy to prevent further lost business.
What you’ll bring to the team
o Bachelor’s degree (as a minimum) in relevant subject
o Demonstrable experience in a commercial environment with proven experience of manipulating and analysing large transactional data sets
o Knowledge of and interest in Post-War and Contemporary Art is essential
o Strong and solid understanding of the auction process
o Meticulous Attention to detail with strong accuracy and analytical skills and demonstrably business process driven
o Ability to manage multiple long- and short-term projects
o Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
o Good communicator – verbal & written
o Enthusiastic approach to continuous improvement and best practice
o Ability to work collaboratively
o Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy
o Advanced user of Excel and data systems
