- Hold a caseload and utilise effective clinical decision-making and clinical skills to assess, implement and evaluate care
- Complete full assessments of patients occupational performance including areas of self-care, productivity and leisure
- Implement specialist group and individual treatments to achieve therapeutic goals
- Complete all necessary clinical documentation in accordance with the company and professional standards.
- Be a source of professional advice relating to Occupational Therapy, to provide advice to individuals in our care, to carers and colleagues as appropriate.
- To deliver an occupational focussed service, providing evidence based practice with recognised measurable outcomes to evaluate the value and impact of occupational therapy.
- Support/ lead the supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, reporting relevant issues to Head OT, including sickness monitoring and time management.
- An awareness and understanding of different mental health conditions
- An awareness and understanding of the nature of a secure ward environment and the risks associated with this.
- Experience of facilitating groups and activities
- Able to work independently
- Effective communication skills, good organisations skills and a positive attitude
- An Occupational Therapy degree and registration with HCPC

Job summary
Base: Cygnet Hospital Bierley - Bierley Lane, Bradford, BD4 6AD Are you a newly qualified or current Band 5 occupational therapist? Do you have a passion for delivering outstanding care and making a positive difference to the lives of the people in your care? This could be your perfect opportunity. Cygnet Hospital Bierley provides a range of acute and low secure mental health services for men and women. This role is a 3 month fixed term contract.
Main duties of the job
At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist. An integral part of this role will be supervising others, with a focus on supporting student education within the team. This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

We are currently recruiting for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Bierley on a fixed term contract (3 months).
Cygnet Hospital Bierley is a mental health hospital located in Bradford, West Yorkshire. There are 4 wards within the hospital which cover 2 different service lines.
Shelley Ward a 16 bed male low secure ward Bronte Ward a 15 bed female low secure ward Lister Ward a 16 bed male acute ward Blossom Ward a 15 bed female acute ward
This role will involve working to contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy department at the hospital. You will be required to provide assessment and treatment of occupational needs, under the supervision of a senior OT. To promote the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life.
The Occupational therapy department at Cygnet Hospital Bierley has 4 qualified Occupational Therapists and 2 Occupational Therapy Assistants. Our environment includes a gym, social hub, ADL kitchen, a sensory room and other therapeutic spaces.
