      Job summary

      An excellent opportunity is available for Occupational Therapist to join the dynamic and supportive team at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, located in Harlow, Essex. This is based within the medical Occupational Therapy team and offers the opportunity to work with a diverse patient populationfrom those who are critically unwell to individuals requiring minimal rehabilitation or professional advice. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality assessment, treatment, advice, and evaluation for patients referred to the acute inpatient Occupational Therapy Service. In return, you will receive guidance and support to enhance your clinical expertise and leadership capabilities as you progress in your professional development.

      Main duties of the job

      As a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality Occupational Therapy services to acute inpatients. You will manage a defined caseload, independently carrying out assessments, treatments, and evaluations for patients referred to the service. Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team, you will operate as an autonomous professional in line with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council regulations. The role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities, carried out under the indirect supervision of a senior Occupational Therapist. You will also actively participate in Continuing Professional Development and contribute to the delivery and growth of in-service training programs.

      This role requires total 18.75 hours per week as below: Mon to Fri, 8.30-12.00 (4 days) & 8.30-13.15 (1 day)

      • To manage an agreed clinical caseload within a multidisciplinary framework, undertaking assessments using both standardised and non-standardised tools, formulating problem lists, and setting goals tailored to the acute care setting.
      • To select and implement appropriate Occupational Therapy interventions, using a combination of rehabilitative, developmental, and compensatory techniques to help patients achieve optimal independence.
      • To plan, prioritise, and manage your own workload effectively, including delegating tasks to Occupational Therapy Assistants and supervising students, ensuring timely and effective service delivery.
      • To prepare both individual and group clinical interventions, accurately documenting treatment outcomes and updating care or discharge plans based on clinical reasoning.
      • To fit, adjust, and train patients in the safe use of a variety of Occupational Therapy equipment and tools, while also maintaining responsibility for their condition and appropriate usage.
      • To undertake and organise access and home visits, advising on environmental adaptations that promote safety, functionality, and independence within the patients living space.
      • To collaborate with patients, carers, and the wider MDT to identify and implement individualised strategies, ensuring treatment aligns with both short-term needs and long-term rehabilitation goals.
