Job Description

- Provide quality occupational therapy services to patients at Toronto General Hospital within the framework of patient centered care
- Contribute to quality improvement and development and implementation of a new model of care
- Provide occupational therapy subject matter expertise
- Work as part of a collaborative team that will include clinicians, quality improvement specialist, design specialist, data analyst and more.
- Communicate effectively with members of the inter-professional team
- Provide education to patients, their families, occupational therapy students and interdisciplinary team members
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, committees and quality initiatives in the Department and relevant Programs/Services
- Assist with coverage of other service areas where required
- Perform all other duties as required
Qualifications
- Completion of a Masters of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy (M.Sc. (OT)) or equivalent
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Member of Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and/or Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists (OSOT) is preferred
- 2-3 years of experience in an acute care hospital environment essential e.g. experience in the assessment and treatment of general internal medicine, oncology and surgical patient experience required
- Experience with seniors preferred
- Experience with psychosocial and physical health and related assessment and intervention skills addressing occupational performance
- Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrates strong and effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication skills
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
- Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and to function in an independent, self-directed manner
- Understanding of principles of quality improvement, change management and evaluation is an asset
- Complies with the legislation outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act, (1991)
- Demonstrates competence with departmental and hospital safety, emergency and infection control procedures

The Myrna Daniels Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre aims to be a world leader in every domain of seniors’ emergency care through building an innovative physical space, designing a transformative model of clinical care, seamlessly integrating with community partners, and producing leading-edge research and education. Seniors are the fastest growing demographic in Canada and require increasingly complex interventions resulting in an urgent need to develop, test and disseminate novel and sustainable approaches that can better meet the needs of an ageing population. The Centre is the first of its kind in Canada and aims to address these challenges through generating and translating new knowledge in the field of seniors’ emergency medicine regionally and internationally.
The scope of the Centre encompasses the Toronto General ED, the Toronto Western ED and a future dedicated space for the Myrna Daniels Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre. Our aim is to ensure that all older adults can receive the same quality of care, regardless of site.
Position Summary
The OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST is an integral member of the Allied Health and the Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre.
Working under the direction of the Operational Manager and in collaboration with other members of the inter-professional team and the Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre, the Occupational therapist will assess and treat patients, delegate appropriate duties to OTA/ PTA, provide student supervision and maintain best practice standards in accordance with UHN policies and procedures. We are seeking individuals who can apply their expertise to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of a new model of care.
