      Job Description

      Occupational Therapy Assistant

      Title: Occupational Therapy Assistant

      Qualifications: Possess a license to work as an occupational therapy assistant in the state of Mississippi

      Possess good verbal and written communication skills to communicat well with children, parents, school faculty, and administration

      Possess organizational and time management skills

      Possess the ability to work independently according to ocupational therapy assistant practice standards

      Reports To: Director of Special Services

      Receives Guidance From: Director, District Administration and Support Staff, Superintendent

      Job Goal: To provide therapeutic intervention(s) to address the fine motor and/or sensory skills as they relate to the education of a student, so that the student is able to benefit from their special education programming

      Professional Responsibilities:

      • Assists in assessing student’s level of functioning and need for therapy;
      • Assists in the development of IEPs and participates in IEPs, at the guidance of the licensed therapist;
      • Participates in meetings, conferences, and on committees, as directed;
      • Implements therapy programs developed by the licensed therapist to meet the IEP goals and objectives;
      • Provides treatment techniques;
      • Demonstrates techniques and specific programs to parents, teachers, teacher assistants, or other appropriate personnel as prescribed by the licensed therapist;
      • Collects and records data on therapy programs;
      • Maintains accurate records and data;
      • Requests, uses, and/or orders appropriate materials and equipment under licensed therapist;
      • Participates in continuing education seminars, workshops, etc.;
      • Maintains confidentiality and privacy of all school records;
      • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor or superintendent; and
      • Be consistently responsible – maintaining regular punctual attendance and timely completion or assigned duties, working assigned days, and using sick and personal leave appropriately.
      • Adhere to the Mississippi Code of Ethics.

      Terms of Employment: Salary, days and work year as established by the Greenville Public School District Board of Education

      Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Greenville Public School Board policy on Evaluation of Employees.
