      JOB TITLE: Oculoplastics Technician

      POSITION SUMMARY:

      The role of the Oculoplastic Technician is to work collaboratively with the clinic physician(s) to perform basic, advanced and complex manual and automated medical tests to allow for proper medical diagnosis. This position requires excellent computer skills and to communicate efficiently with patients, physicians and other staff members. Must be flexible with schedule and willing to commute between two locations, demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and uphold the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      The essential functions of the Oculoplastic Technician include, but are not limited to the following:

      • Obtains accurate patient history; scribe and document for physician
      • Performs diagnostic testing of the eye while having a basic understanding and knowledge of these tests such as tangent visual field and external photography
      • Obtains accurate visual acuities with basic optics understanding
      • Demonstrates ability to perform functional ocular measurements of the eye such as color vision testing, muscles, pupils
      • Administers topical ophthalmic medications
      • Performs accurate tonometry by tonopen or applanation
      • Maintains and sterilizing surgical instruments
      • Assists the physician with in-office procedures both sterile and non-sterile
      • Verbalizes post operative instructions in a clear and professional manner to patients for any procedure performed at KWEC
      • Understands basic ocular pharmacology

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):

      • Two years of Ophthalmic Technician experience in an ophthalmology setting; previous Oculoplastics experience is a plus
      • JCAHPO certification (COA/COT) recognizing more advanced general knowledge and specific use of ophthalmic instruments as pertaining to the level of COT – preferred
      • High school diploma or GED
      • Successful completion of two or more years of college and/or university level courses - preferred
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
      • Proficient in EMR and computer literacy
      • Create and provide a positive, accountable and inspired work environment
      • Well organized and attentive to detail
      • CPR preferred, but not required
      • HIPAA knowledge and compliance
