      WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
      • Perform, monitor and review administrative tasks to ensure that activities are compliant with rules and regulations and align to established administrative procedures.
      • Maintain statewide fire service training records on behalf of the division.
      • Monitor and analyze bureau finances and expenditure reconciliations.
      • Coordinate statewide fire service contractor assignments approved by the bureau Administrator.
      • Provide administrative support during bureau meetings and training courses in the areas of communication, logistics, and record-keeping.

      WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:


      • Documented experience providing excellent customer service skills, including the ability to handle stressful situations and manage interactions in a professional and courteous manner;
      • Have excellent communication skills (verbally and in writing) and experience maintaining accurate and systematic records; knowledge of record keeping principles and practices;
      • Ability to collect, analyze data, information and situations, draw logical conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations, independent judgments, and decisions;
      • Ability to maintain effective time management within constant changes in workload priorities to meet program time frames and performance outcomes. Attendance and punctuality are critical components to the success of this position;
      • Possess a moderate working knowledge of computers and keyboarding skills; ability to learn a variety of software programs, mainframe system and interfaces; technical aptitude to operate test management hardware and software, and interface with other records management systems software.

      High school diploma or the equivalent.
      AND
      One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

      Substitution:
      Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

      Special Note:
      "High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

      Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

      Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

      AT TIME OF INTERVIEW

      IMPORTANT INFORMATION
      • A civilian background check will be included in this hiring process.
      • State of Alaska IRIS training is required within 3 months of employment
      • State of Alaska Travel training is required within 3 months of employment
      • Valid Alaska driver's license is required for this position
      • The Bureau has access to department fleet vehicles that may not be available for staff use when needed. Mileage reimbursement is available when a personal vehicle is used for work-related matters. Current automotive insurance must be in place prior to use of a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the state.
      • Air travel may be required to conduct bureau business required under AS 18.70.020 and AS 18.70.340 and for other position specific training opportunities.
      BACKGROUND CHECK

      This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
