      JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

      The Opportunity

Penn State’s multi-billion dollar Long Term Investment Pool (LTIP) is a diversified program invested across various asset classes and strategies. The Office of Investment Management (OIM), together with Penn State Investment Council (appointed by the University’s Board of Trustees), is charged with managing the LTIP for current and future program spending while preserving the long-term purchasing power of the overall portfolio. Wisely investing funds for Penn State will support future generations through education, while also contributing to the growth and development of Penn State.

      We aim to identify a few students who are interested in learning and applying their knowledge within a professional setting. This position will provide an opportunity to benefit from and contribute to the Penn State community.

      These internships are open to any current student with any academic major. Prior knowledge of investments is not required.

      If you have a desire to learn about institutional investing, this internship position will provide a solid foundation for multiple career paths.

      Flexible Work Arrangements

      The position offers flexible work arrangements, such as in office, remote or hybrid work opportunities.

      Position Summary

      Internships during the summer are expected to be 10-week/40 hours per week positions. Interns will be considered part-time employees and paid $20 per hour. Individuals are expected to work independently and collaboratively with other interns and OIM team members.

      The specific responsibilities of the intern will depend on the current priorities for OIM. As a member of OIM, you will be joining a team of individuals who have the ambition to help Penn State succeed.

      What we will provide

      Each intern will gain broad exposure to an institutional investment process and will benefit from working with experienced investment and operations professionals. This role will not provide opportunities to analyze and manage portfolios of individual securities. OIM has a collaborative, team environment focused on continual learning.

      Expected Competencies – Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

      The Office of Investment Management seeks dynamic individuals who will challenge and assist in the evolution of our investment process, operational procedures, and communication with the Penn State community. Intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning are necessary.

      The preferred candidates will possess:

      • A desire to learn about investment strategies and processes, the operational procedures that focus on the implementation of the investment ideas, the technology infrastructure that supports a growing need for data management, or the communications to stakeholders to improve transparency and understanding of the investment process

      • Strong analytical skills and an ability to incorporate quantitative and qualitative factors

      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint

      • Aptitude in learning and utilizing third-party software

      • Familiarity with gathering, analyzing, and visualizing data

      • Resourcefulness in managing multiple tasks; advancing projects from ideas to outcomes on a timely basis

      • The temperament to deal with ambiguity

      • A balance of confidence and humility

      • The ability to constructively challenge and respectfully debate topics, quickly synthesize information, and articulate ideas with a diverse audience

      • Excellent organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills
