      Job Description

      Note: This is not a secretarial / personal assistant role and requires an individual with a relevant postgraduate degree.

      We are looking for an Executive Associate to support the OML Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on management of the office and key strategic projects . The role involves working closely with the CEO, the OML Executive Team and other key stakeholders both within and outside the broader Old Mutual Limited business.

      A truly cross-functional role, the successful candidate will support the CEO to oversee business intiatives across the OML landscape. Based in Cape Town, this opportunity provides a +- 24 month learning opportunity building perspective of the OML business as a whole and strategic leadership. Following the period in the role, the candidate will be well positioned to move into other opportunities within the broader Old Mutual group, and will be supported in doing so, subject to acceptable performance.

      This role requires a flexible self-driven person comfortable with managing ambiguity, with a very strong can-do attitude and capable of managing multiples deliverables from a variety of OML and external stakeholders. A high level of integrity, maturity and confidentiality is required.

      Trusted advisor to leadership

      • Builds and maintains relationships with executives and senior management across OML.
      • High level of contact with external parties, stakeholders and clients as required.
      • Supporting the CEO by acting as a business partner to leadership team and executives and providing insights and recommendations to help shape business outcomes.
      • Be comfortable with leading difficult conversations and respectfully challenge leaders when required
      • Act as point of contact and subject matter expert on the business, providing guidance and serving as a secondary escalation point.
      • Programme Management of key events on behalf of the CEO and may host internal guests, e.g. OML Exco and Senior Leadership Group.

      Business Management and Analytics

      • Provide data-driven insights on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and standardized business metrics.
      • Using data to establish baseline metrics and analytics to track and report all key performance indicators against annual, quarterly and monthly goals. Establish and maintain management dashboards, and executive review documents that will drive business outcomes.
      • Manage and review the end-to-end execution of the OML business planning cycles annually and multi-year meeting cadence that drive business outcomes.
      • Manage the preparation, own agenda development, track and follow up actions and influence leaders to complete forward looking business plans.
      • Anticipate the needs of the business and proactively collaborate to develop new plans as needed.

      Administration & Support

      • Performs administrative duties for an executive, including presentations, minutes and other tasks.
      • Co-ordinates resources to gather information and may prepare first draft of various reports.
      • Prepares presentations with little input from senior executives
      • Responsible for ensuring relevant matters are included on Exco agendas.
      • Required to investigate and research various ad-hoc business-issues, strategic initiatives and developments.
      • Required to respond timeously and professionally to a variety of ad hoc projects, business issues, client requests and stakeholder requests that impact across the organization.
      • Ensures the CEO is equipped with necessary documentation to proceed with meetings.
      • Represents the executive on certain ad hoc projects, meetings and events as required.

      Communication and Engagement

      • Builds and maintains relationships with executives and senior management across OML.
      • High level of contact with external parties, stakeholders and clients as required.
      • Prepares reports and presentations for the CEO.
      • Leads the project management of key events on behalf of the CEO and may host internal guests, e.g. OML Exco and Senior Leadership Group.

      Minimum Criteria

      • Postgraduate Financial or Commercial (or any other relevant) degree with 5 years + working experience (financial services industry would be an advantage).
      • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
      • Excellent command of the English language, both in communication ability and in drafting skills.

      • Experience in stakeholder management and liaising at a Senior Management level.
      • Solid interpersonal skills, showing an ability to work through influence rather than control; and to be able to interact at all levels and facilitate the delivery of decisions.
      • Strong levels of maturity and ability to handle stress and sensitive interpersonal and other matters if needed.
      • Clear ability to build and maintain relationships and networks.
      • Ability to work both in a team and independently.
      • Be reliable, have integrity and display a professional approach. Maintain confidentiality of all information, both from internal and external sources.

      Additional Details:

      • In addition to knowledge, skills and experience relating to the incumbent’s area of business expertise, emphasis will be placed on planning and organising skills as well as excellence in communication (written and verbal), engagement and interpersonal skills.
      • A broad understanding of our industry, organisation, products, intermediaries and customers will be an advantage.
