      The Division of Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is seeking to fill multiple on-call Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 3's who can help to drive the vision of (API) which is to provide an excellent experience for patients, families, community supports, students and staff with quality treatment and best practices in mental health care.


      What you will be doing:

      As a psychiatric nursing assistant, you will engage and monitor clients who present with acute and chronic mental health concerns. Duties include assisting and observation through the evaluation and an admission process that includes searching, accurately documenting patient property, and safely securing these items. You are required to observe behavior and client participation in their recovery and document these observations on an electronic health record (EHR). Other duties include assisting clients with their activities of daily living and utilization of routine technical, diagnostic, and treatment skills.

      Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska.
      OR
      One year of experience directly working with and providing paraprofessional aide, treatment, and/or rehabilitation services to patients or clients who have been diagnosed with or experience mental illness, behavioral or cognitive disorders, and/or addiction as part of assisted living, independent living, or treatment services, home, or facility setting.

      Substitution:
      Post-secondary education in psychology, sociology, mental health, and/or chemical dependency may substitute for up to six months of the requisite experience (2.67 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

      Special Note:
      Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

      Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

      BACKGROUND CHECK
      The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.

      If selected for the position and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:
      1. Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
      2. Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations;
      3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement);
      4. Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement;
      5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months;
      6. Proof of COVID Vaccination or exemption.


      COVID-19 Vaccination
      The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) require the incumbent of this position at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) to be fully vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
