- Assists in specific patient care duties including electrocardiograms, and gather/deliver supplies/equipment.
- Gathers, disassembles, washes, disinfects, reassembles, checks, and distributes respiratory therapy equipment. Completes appropriate paperwork regarding same and routes to Bio-Med or Maintenance where indicated. Informs supervisor of equipment that needs disposition and/or replacement. Maintains inventory listing of items (e.g., machinery, smaller equipment) in Respiratory Therapy Department.
- Checks respiratory therapy supplies on all floors assigned to this departments responsibility and maintains adequate inventories. Performs weekly inventory on disposables, informing supervisor of needed supplies; keeps specialty area stocked with disposables and works with area supervisors to keep par-levels and items at optimal level. Places orders in absence of supervisor as deemed appropriate. Maintains inventory and monitors preventative maintenance of all respiratory durables. Keeps processing chemicals labeled properly and currently.
- Serves as resource person on proper use of processing equipment and proper cleaning procedures of durable respiratory equipment.
- Maintains respiratory equipment in state of readiness. Provides orderly equipment storage areas with items correctly packaged, labeled, and stored. Assists with development of new or revised equipment setups. Keeps department bins stocked for quick and easy access by therapists. Assembles circuits (ventilators, CPAP, aerosol, updraft, Pentamidine updraft) and changes dirty updraft setups throughout hospital.
- Delivers ventilators and respiratory equipment upon request of therapists, nurses, or physicians. Serves as liaison between Coordinator and nursing areas for equipment and supplies. Resolves equipment-related problems where applicable. Calls vendors for equipment rental or return of rentals Inspects all inpatient areas daily for dirty/broken respiratory equipment Processes equipment and returns equipment to department.
- Coordinates and follows up on preventive maintenance on all respiratory equipment with BIOMED.
- Maintains clean and orderly area for equipment processing, assuring single direction flow from dirty to clean area. Adheres to Infection Control routines and standards regarding processing equipment, counters and work areas.
- Maintains current CPR card. Performs compressions during codes as necessary.
- Adheres to established department policies and procedures.
- Gathers patient care information to formulate comprehensive billing of all respiratory therapy services and supplies.
- Communicate with patients and families in a positive and courteous manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- One year experience in a respiratory therapy environment or related experience.
- High School Diploma; or equivalent related experience.
- Basic Life Support required at hire
- Demonstrated knowledge of respiratory equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of respiratory therapy equipment, its use and proper cleaning and sterilizing techniques; and the ability to adhere to orders and independently carry out simple respiratory procedures and techniques.
- Skill in oral communication, written communication, organizational skills, initiative, and interpersonal relations.
- Post high school coursework/training/experience with respiratory equipment or student in respiratory program.
Job Summary:Maintains all respiratory therapy equipment throughout Maui Health System as well as inventory listing of same. Regularly checks respiratory supplies and replaces used items.
