!*!GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical nurse and the Resource nurse the Operating Room Assistant is responsible for transporting patients, cleaning endoscopy equipment (Scope tower, stretchers, monitors, cords, etc.), maintaining a clean environment, moving equipment, delivery of specimens. The ORA functions as a member of the Perioperative Nursing team who has specific knowledge, skills and training to work in an Operating Room Environment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Material and Equipment Management
a. Retrieval of specialty equipment (i.e. ICU beds, Flouro Beds)
b. Assist in moving specialty equipment (i.e. EUS machines, ERBE, Endoflip, etc.).
c. Return equipment to designated locations.
d. Restock procedure rooms and pre/post operative bays
e. Restock Nutritional items
f. Clean and make stretchers – make turnover packs (sheets, johnny, socks ect.)
g. Remove broken stretchers from circulation, prepare equipment repair forms
h. Deliver specimens to laboratories
2. Environment
a. Clean procedure rooms, pre/post bays.
1. Utilize appropriate cleaning wipes to clean equipment in between cases.
2. Make stretchers
3. Clean surfaces (surgical tech cart, WOW, monitors)
b. Maintain clean corridors and adhere to regulatory requirements for storage of equipment in hallways.
c. Participate in shared duties
1. Restock perioperative carts and procedure room carts (Nursing and Surgical Tech carts)
2. Cleaning and making stretchers
3. Patient Care Activities
a. Transport patients
4. Self Development
a. Collaborates with Nursing Director, Nurse Manager and Nursing Practice Specialist to identify and meet learning needs.
b. Adheres to Department of Nursing annual training requirements.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Must be able to lift 40 pounds independently
Must be able to push stretcher with patient weighting 250 pounds independently
Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 6 hours)
Must be able to comprehend written directions for cleaning equipment based on infection control guidance and IFU’s.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Hospital setting, specifically and Endoscopy environment which requires the wearing of surgical scrub attire which includes but is not limited to scrubs, hat, mask, gloves, goggles, booties, and gown. Fluctuation in temperature is frequent, as well as the handling of body fluids, sharps and tissue. Fast paced environment.

High school graduate or equivalent
Able to read, understand and write English
Successful completion of Hospital Orientation
Successful completion of Departmental Orientation and Training
