      About this opportunity:

      Red Bee Media Content Discovery handles programme schedules for BBC TV and radio channels and a host of commercial channels. Operational listings writers enter timings, synopses and metadata into custom databases which supply programme information to electronic programme guides (EPGs), BBC iPlayer, video on demand (VOD) services and a variety of websites, driving multimedia content as well as providing listings. Outstanding sub-editing skills, attention to detail and technical proficiency are a requirement.

      We are looking for an operational listings writers to work in our BBC operations team. The role entails staying on top of live programmes and reacting optimally to breaking events in liaison with the Playout editor, updating schedules rapidly when broadcasters make late changes and responding to queries from Red Bee staff and clients.

      The work is carried out every day of the year in a shift pattern covering the usual hours of 0800-2400.

      What you will do:

      • Carry out duties meticulously, where appropriate writing detailed handovers to colleagues at the end of each shift.
      • Collaborate closely with the production manager and other team members to ensure the smooth flow of information.
      • Communicate progress to the production manager and handle workload efficiently to ensure that cover is possible in the case of absences.
      • Be the representative of Red Bee Media Metadata in Playout 1, collaborating closely with Red Bee Playout staff, the Red Bee Media planning unit and BBC schedulers to ensure that EPG information is accurate and up to date.
      • Supervise gaps in schedules to ensure that complete listings are delivered to clients.
      • Be aware of- and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) as laid down in service level agreements (SLAs) agreed between Red Bee and its clients, and how they define the relationship with the client.
      • Log and progress issues in co-operation with colleagues in other areas of the company such as Red Bee IT Support.
      • Collaborate closely with broadcasters and clients, and handle incoming queries politely and efficiently.
      • Edit broadcasters’ schedules and programme information onto a database according to set parameters, including ensuring that programme information accords with house style, editorial guidelines and, where appropriate, with client-specific requirements.
      • Evaluate and where necessary check programme information by referring to the broadcaster or authoritative alternative sources to ensure that all information received is comprehensible and accurate.
      • Ensure all late changes are promptly entered into the databases..
      • Pay due attention to detail and accuracy, for example, in reading through billings and metadata for completed channels during the QA process.
      • Keep up with new projects and developments in technology, and assimilate new standard methodologies, including involvement in user-testing developments on the database.

      You will bring:

      • First-class sub-editing skills, including excellent spelling and attention to detail.
      • In-depth knowledge of media, including on-demand services and the future media landscape.
      • Broad general knowledge.
      • A typing speed of at least 40wpm.
      • IT literacy and an understanding of the significance of listings metadata and its accuracy.
