- Supporting the outage process by providing the resource and technical skills required
- Monitoring plant conditions, maintaining records of values and observations
- Responding to requests from other departments to investigate matters such as plant alarms and performing any actions as a consequence
- Logging activities performed accurately and comprehensively, to ensure a thorough handover to the oncoming shift
- Supporting our transitional phase from a generation station to a safe defueling station.
Operations Technician

The opportunity
We’re looking for new technicians to be key members of our Operations Department, responsible for the safe and reliable operation and defueling of the nuclear power plant throughout your day-to-day activities. We have vacancies available in both our day and shift teams, so please let us know which you’d prefer.

Pay, benefits and cultureWe can offer a competitive salary from £37,169 - £46,963 and a range of company benefits such as 28 days holiday and a competitive pension. If you are appointed into a shift role, you’ll also be entitled to a shift allowance ranging from £11,359 - £12,877. You’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

Everyday you’ll be maintaining attitudes and nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and achieve a safe working environment. You’ll exhibit the highest standard of performance through the delivery of your tasks, adopting a measured approach to the changing priorities and workload during your shifts. These tasks will include:
Training also continues throughout your employment, where you will have the chance to obtain further experience and knowledge as well as support ongoing improvement through training committeeparticipation. You’ll be required to be a member of the Emergency Scheme, once fully trained.
Who you are
As a minimum, you should be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent). It may be advantageous if you hold these qualifications to “C” and above grade passes in English and Mathematics. Ideally an HNC will be required for further progression in the role.
You’ll be required to maintain the necessary physical fitness to perform the roles identified above, in particular those associated with the emergency response team where the wearing of breathing apparatus while performing physical work is a necessity. To comply with Emergency Scheme arrangements you should live within 25 miles (30 minutes) of Dungeness B Power Station.To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
