We publish expert-written opinions and feature stories; news and feature articles by leading journalists; and award-winning graphics, art and multimedia. Our work is translated in more than 20 international magazine editions that are read around the world.

Scientific American seeks an intern who has an interest in science, health and environmental journalism to work in the opinion department. The intern will be part of our overall editorial team and help commission and edit our award-winning analysis and commentary on science discoveries, science policy, public health, social science, technology, and insights and innovations that matter.

      Description:

Scientific American’s opinion intern will help acquire and edit expert commentary and analysis for the website, some of which may go into the print magazine's opinion sections Agenda and Forum. The intern may also contribute to or assist with a variety of other editorial projects including, but not limited to: print and online news stories, videos and podcasts, Q&As, book reviews, infographics and other forms of visual storytelling, and events such as webinars.

      Qualifications:

Must have command of basic reporting and writing and a strong interest in science, health, environment and/or technology topics. Experience writing or editing commentary is a plus, but not required. An undergraduate degree in a science discipline is preferred but not required.
