      ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

      Occasional to moderate travel required.

      Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

      JOB DUTIES:

      This is a full-time OPS Park Ranger position on the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest in Frostproof, FL, managing invasive plant species that alter natural communities by displacing native species and expanding through natural processes. This OPS position’s primary duties will be spent in the field searching and treating for invasive plant species, logging areas on a GPS/Flint unit, and maintaining these areas through planning with data management. This work includes mapping locations on the computer in ArcGIS/shapefiles, other data entry/management, and equipment maintenance. This OPS Park Ranger position also provides assistance with state forest projects such as collecting data for threatened and endangered plant and animal species, restoration projects, and the prescribed burning program.

      Examples of Work Performed

      Performs invasive species eradication and control utilizing specialized equipment, herbicides, and land management techniques.

      Orders and store supplies necessary to maintain an adequate inventory.

      Assists in preparing long and short-range goals and objectives.

      Assists with reforestation activities and forest inventory measurements on state forest lands.

      Assists on prescribed fire on state forest lands as needed.

      Assists in monitoring and data collection of threatened and endangered species on state forest lands.

      Assists in restoration projects of uplands natural communities on state forest lands.

      Assists in maintenance of recreational facilities on state forest lands.

      Coordinates the maintenance and operation of farm machinery, trucks, mixing and spray equipment.

      Performs other related work as required.
