Job Description
- Req#: 4875
- Perform laboratory measurements using polarization analyzers, optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, imaging cameras, optical transmitters, optical receivers, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment.
- Run tests to characterize optical and electrical performance of fast steering mirrors (FSMs)
- Develop and execute assembly and test procedures for free-space and fiber-optic components and systems for spaceflight applications
- Maintain optics lab facilities, equipment, tools, and supplies
- Document your work in laboratory notebooks, PowerPoint slides, or word documents
- Operate lasers up to and including Class 4
- Support installation and testing of optical components, assemblies, and payload systems with thermal chambers, vacuum chambers, and shock and vibration stages
- Build and align free-space optics assemblies and testbeds (lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, etc.)
- Fiber-optic assembly involving high-reliability fusion splicing processes for specialty fiber types
- Work inside a cleanroom environment
- Work with devices sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD)
- BS. degree in physics, optical, mechanical, or electrical engineering or equivalent experience working with free-space optical systems
- Enjoy working on complex systems with interdisciplinary engineering teams
- Experience handling and aligning free-space optical components, such as lenses and mirrors
- Experience operating lasers or optical systems
- Experience performing measurements using optical and electrical test equipment, including waveform generators, oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, polarization analyzers, optical power and energy sensors
- US. Citizen eligible to obtain a Security Clearance
- 2+ years of professional experience
- Knowledge of optical modulation schemes
- Prior experience working in cleanrooms
- Prior experience working with ESD-sensitive devices
- Software development with LabVIEW, C++, Java, Matlab, or Python
Overview
BlueHalo is looking for an Entry Level Optical Engineer to support installation and testing of optical components, assemblies, and payload systems with thermal chambers, vacuum chambers, and shock and vibration stages. You will also help build and align free-space optics assemblies and testbeds (lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, etc.).
