The Organ Placement Coordinator (OPC) is a critical position which requires the ability to think critically and quickly determine the best course of action in the highly dynamic organ donation process. The role encompasses the allocation of organs, their surgical recovery, perfusion, packaging and transportation. The OPC will be trained to perform assigned role responsibilities. The OPC will receive organ import offers from outside agencies and communicate those offers to the appropriate local transplant surgeon utilizing some developed pathways and their own critical thinking skills as most situations are difficult to cover with protocols/pathways. The OPC will track all pending organ offers and update appropriate parties as indicated. If an organ is accepted, the OPC coordinates the travel arrangements related to recovery and transport. The OPC will participate in abdominal organ allocation for local LoH donors which will require this individual to have excellent communication skills, judgment and follow-through. OPCs are required to complete all documentation accurately and promptly. The OPC is expected to comply with all LoH standard operating procedures (SOPs), local, state, and federal requirements as applicable. This is a remote position and requires 12-15 days of 24-hour call per month, or the equivalent of 12 hour shifts (3-4 shifts/wk) with rotating day/night shifts. Organ Placement Coordinators schedules include weekends and holidays with on call responsibilities as scheduled.
