      Description

      Orthopaedic Associates of Manhasset has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Physician Assistant. The Physician Assistant will provide support to a busy sports medicine surgeon in both the clinic and OR.       E stablished in 1971, OAM provides its communities with advanced, accessible, and vertically integrated orthopedic care. With 18 sub-specialty trained physicians practicing in two locations, OAM is the premier multi-specialty orthopaedic practice in its markets. T he physicians provide expertise in the full spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries including sports medicine, minimally invasive orthopedic spine surgery, total joint replacement, foot/ankle, hand/upper extremity, trauma, and pain management. OAM also offers onsite digital imaging and state-of-the-art physical therapy and MRI.

      Highlights:

      • Performs and documents history and physicals of pre-operative patients. Prepares documentation for consent on admit
      • Assists with post-operative checks, including wound evaluations and dressing changes
      • Performs in-office procedures such as cast/splint placements and removals, suture removal and wound care, staple removals, and managing infection
      • Collects and/or prepares samples, such as wound cultures or joint fluid from patients for testing
      • Administers medications, orally or by subcutaneous injection when indicated
      • Renews medications, as needed for patients in office, phone, or electronically
      • Orders X-rays, laboratory tests, physical therapy renewals, CT/MRI and other diagnostic tests as needed
      • Makes post-operative calls to patients at home to check on status when indicated
      • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and patient teaching
      • First assists in all surgeries
      • Assures all films, X-rays, MRIs, etc. are up on monitors prior to surgeries
      • Provides quality in-patient care including rounds, progress notes, dressing changes, and follows lab results
      • Handles post-op orders for all cases covered
      • Coordinates discharge of patient including clinical resume and all other required documentation
      • Participates in on-call coverage (one weekend per month)
      • Provides some coverage of football games (after hours)
      • 5-day work week plus sports game coverage
      • Hours may vary with a range of 7am-5pm, depending on schedule (OR or office)
      • Locations include Great Neck (office), East Hills Surgery Center, St. Francis Hospital

      Qualifications


      Requirements:

      • Master’s degree
      • NCCPA Certified
      • NYS PA license
      • DEA license
      • Minimum one-year surgical experience preferred; new grads are invited to apply with an orthopedic surgery rotation
      • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task
      • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
