- Design and develop standard and non-standard packaging solutions, including detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or NX.
- Interpret technical documentation, sketches, and 3D models to develop comprehensive 2D drawings.
- Collaborate with customers to understand design requirements and gather feedback.
- Document interactions and feedback for future design iterations.
- Select appropriate mechanical or packaging components based on performance, cost, and manufacturing considerations.
- Create or update packaging specifications, including materials and tolerances, to optimize manufacturing and costs.
- Review CAD designs with customers' packaging engineering departments to ensure requirements are met.
- Develop and update BOMs and technical documentation.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, providing technical recommendations.
- Perform packaging testing, validation, and structural analysis.
- Maintain accurate documentation of designs, analyses, and changes.
- Evaluate design alternatives and propose improvements.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance enhancement.
- Guide and support junior engineers.
- Continuously develop engineering skills and knowledge.
- Follow company policies on data security.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in mechanical or structural design.
- Proficiency in CAD software, SolidWorks and NX.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5).
- Experience with packaging design, testing, and standards (ISO, Mil-spec, ASTM, ISTA).
- Understanding of protective packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to measure accurately with tools like tape measures, calipers, and scales.
- Experience with CNC programming and ArtiosCAD is a plus.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and team-focused.
- Ability to pass background checks and comply with ITAR and vaccination requirements.

Primary Function:
The Packaging Design Engineer is responsible for defining and developing packaging designs and specifications that meet product requirements, ensuring protection, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities include creating 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, calculations, Bill of Material (BOM) creation, customer site visits, updating designs and documentation, and supporting junior engineers.
