      Proficient professional position responsible for developing innovative packaging solutions that drives business results (cost, sustainability, sales, quality) for Sherwin Williams. This position is accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple complex company business opportunities and/or problems using considerable technical expertise and experience to develop new packaging and methods, improve existing packaging, and solve/prevent problems.

      Qualifications

      Experience Required:

      Basic Qualifications:

      • Must be at least 18 years of age
      • Must have the legal right to work in this country
      • Package Engineering experience or related duties as expressed above.
      • Familiarity with the use of packaging equipment.
      • Familiarity with Word and Excel as well as package related software such as CAPE or TOPS.
      • Able to lift up to 5 gallon pails (approximately 60 lbs) of product as needed.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Package Engineering experience or related duties.
      • Familiarity with AutoCAD, ArtiosCAD, or related software.
      • Familiarity/experience with Continuous Improvement processes/techniques: i.e. 6 sigma certified, lean, transactional lean, root cause analysis, etc.
      • Familiarity with Stage-Gate or related processes used for Package Development.

      Education Required

      Basic Qualifications:
      • Bachelor Degree Required

      Minimum Qualifications:
      • BS Engineering or equivalent experience

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • BS Package Engineering Preferred

      Responsibilities

      • Develops and implements packaging projects with Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Distribution and outside suppliers to meet customer requirements.
      • Provides guidance on packaging to toll fillers.
      • Designs lab and field tests to innovate and solve problems.
      • Conducts package and material tests, analyzes data, and writes reports including conclusions and recommendations to Division Management.
      • Conducts lab housekeeping and equipment maintenance as required.
      • Creates, revises, and publishes package specifications for purchase and use.
      • Creates, revises, and publishes testing procedures.
      • Assigns packaging part numbers and descriptions to be used for production Bill of Materials.
      • Qualifies/disqualifies packaging materials/vendors based on lab results and/or field
        performance.
      • Conducts vendor qualification audits.
      • Travels to SW manufacturing facilities, packaging suppliers and contract packers as necessary to resolve issues that are package related.
      • With direction from the Regulatory department, ensures proper assignment of packaging to hazardous products per the Code of Federal Regulations 49
      • Maintains contacts within SW organization, i.e., Corporate Purchasing, Marketing, Manufacturing, and R&D and other Packaging Engineers.
      • Maintains contacts outside the organization, i.e., vendors, equipment manufacturers, professional package societies and all contract packers that support Sherwin Williams.
      • Develops, updates and maintains Engineering web site and other associated databases.

      Principle Accountabilities:

      • Acts as a resource to other employees technically, professionally, and in project management. Also influences other employees technically within the department.
      • Leads projects to solve problems, improve processes, and/or develop methods. Recommends continuation/termination of projects.
      • Proactive in advancing technical knowledge.
      • Initiates actions on safety issues and takes responsibility for ensuring safe operating procedures.
      • Effectively leverages knowledge to both internal and external customers to solve packaging problems.
      • Organizes time to effectively complete multiple problems/projects.
      • May share accountability for an engineering field or equipment type. May contribute to cost estimates and project budgeting.
      • Proficient in documenting and communicating with others. Responsible for planning/execution of projects.
      • Professionally applies technical expertise, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Develops project plans and determines resource requirements.
      • Shows initiative in resolving issues and problems with solutions for internal/external customers.
      • Independently creates project plans, assessments, and presentations for project customers.
