Provide expert medical oversight for Demelzas caseload, ensuring the highest standards of care. Support and collaborate with Demelzas Registered Nurses to deliver extraordinary, safe, and compassionate care to children and their families. Deliver specialist medical oversight, enhancing the quality, safety and effectiveness of care for children requiring palliative support. Contribute to the development of a specialist nursing outreach team, working alongside existing teams to ensure timely and appropriate symptom management for children. Play an active role in shaping national developments within paediatric palliative care, implementing national guidance at a local level. Provide education and training to the workforce, supporting ongoing development and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care Support Demelzas research initiatives, contributing to advancements in paediatric palliative care. Training would be a full-time position for 1 year across the tertiary centre and Demelza Eltham, £61,852 to £70,425 a year whilst undertaking SPIN training. At the end of the training the position would be 6 PA based at Eltham.

Qualifications

Essential

• Membership of the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health or equivalent qualification. Certificate of completion of training in paediatrics, or equivalent experience (or within 6 months of obtaining it). Eligible for full GMC registration. A minimum of 1 year full time experience in paediatric palliative medicine, including patient assessment, symptom management and complex decision making. Experience in the clinical care of children and young people in both oncology and non-oncology. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care decisions. Understanding of disease trajectories in malignant, non-malignant and long-term conditions including reversible conditions for children. Demonstrate ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
• Communication skills training. Valid level 3 Safeguarding training. Willing to work unsupervised and make decisions. Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrate ability to work across care settings. Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively. Safeguarding children and adults experience, raising and escalating concerns and advocating for them. Enhanced awareness of safeguarding children with complex needs and non-verbal communication.
• Understanding of ethical decision making, including withholding or withdrawing treatments at the end of life. Understanding of the role of childrens hospices in supporting and enhancing palliative and end of life care for children. Meets the requirements of the GMCs Good Medical Practice. Leadership skills to include; confident, strategic influence; innovation in practice; and empowering others. Experience as a competent and visible leader, confident in providing expert advice, guidance and support to a multi-disciplinary team. Experience of using information and knowledge to improve clinical services
• UK Drivers licence and use of a car. IT literate. Experience in participation in clinical audit quality improvement projects and able to demonstrate how these improve medical practice. Ability to critically appraise evidence to improve clinical outcomes. Willingness and ability to teach all grades of staff within the multi-disciplinary team. Passionate and committed advocate for childrens palliative care and hospice services. Effective communicator with children, families, colleagues, managers and all teams. Exceptional team working skills and respect for colleagues. Compassionate manner. Self-motivated. Committed to personal and professional development. Demonstrate close alignment to all Demelza values. Ability and willingness to travel across sites and locations.
