      PURPOSE OF CONSULTANCY

      The Department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health (NMH) is seeking a communications consultant to support the development and execution of a series of products and activities, which will raise awareness and understanding of NMH public health issues, as well as the Organization’s work in these areas and contribute to increase the uptake of PAHO´s technical resources for the topics addressed in NMH. Key outputs for this consultancy will include communication products related to PAHO’s preparation of Member States for the 4th UN High level meeting on NCDs, PAHO’s initiative on Better Care for NCDs, including HEARTS in the Americas, and the region’s work to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer, prevent suicide, strengthen diabetes care and promote healthy lifestyles to prevent NCDs, among others.

      DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

      The consultant will be responsible for delivering the following communication outputs, with technical input from PAHO subject matter experts.

      PROJECTS AND DELIVERIES:

      June – July 2025:

      • Create a new webpage section on Quality monitoring and improvement on the Hearts in the Americas subsite.
      • Update the social media package on Hearts in the Americas.
      • Deliver a pre-production timeline proposal for podcasts and multimedia clips on NCDs topics. Record and edit video remarks or presentations from PAHO experts, and capsules or PSAs produced in house. (Presential)
      • Create flyers to promote webinars and virtual events organized by NMH.
      • Design the monthly NMH newsletter.
      • Drafting or editing web notes, social media posts, talking points and other written materials related to Drowning Prevention Day. (such as infographics, factsheets, interviews or stories, and key messages).
      • Help draft the Better Care for NCDs wall posters to be delivered to country offices with PHC guidelines.
      • Create webpages for the Better Care for NCDs web subsite, to include the new content on the strategic lines of the initiative. Support webinars and events from the initiative, for example the next launch of the virtual course in English. Draft updated posts for social media. Draft and update as needed talking points on the Initiative.
      • Draft web notes and announcements on the new publications or virtual courses published during this period.

      August – September 2025:

      • Produce video capsules for the UNGA H-L Meeting (script drafting and editing, recording the episodes and video editing) (Presential)
      • Identify and organize relevant documents to be disseminated in UNGA related meetings (side event)
      • Review and edit technical presentations to provide communications input.
      • Provide technical assistance in communications for in-person meetings or events as liaison with the IT technicians, including coordinating the tests for the Directing Council side events. (Presential)
      • Record and edit video capsules on Best Buys, interviewing PAHO experts in the regional office.
      • Prepare social media posts and translate into Spanish for the Dementia Awareness campaign and create the campaign webpage.
      • Record and edit video remarks or presentations from PAHO experts, and capsules or PSAs produced in house. (Presential)
      • Create flyers to promote webinars and virtual events organized by NMH
      • Design the monthly NMH newsletter and a special issue on Suicide Prevention.
      • Drafting or editing web notes, social media posts, talking points and other written materials related to Alzheimer's day, Breastfeeding week, suicide prevention day, childhood cancer month and heart day. (such as infographics, factsheets, interviews or stories, and key messages).
      • Draft web notes, social media posts and announcements on the new publications or virtual courses published during this period.

      October – November 2025

      • Record and edit video remarks or presentations from PAHO experts, and capsules or PSAs produced in house.
      • Create flyers to promote webinars and virtual events organized by NMH
      • Design the monthly NMH newsletter and special issues on Mental Health and Diabetes.
      • Drafting or editing web notes, social media posts, talking points and other written materials related to breast cancer awareness month, mental health day, Palliative Care Day, Diabetes Day, Cervical Cancer Action Day, World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, and the International Day of the Prevention of Violence Against Women. (such as infographics, factsheets, interviews or stories, and key messages).
      • Draft web notes, social media posts and announcements on the new publications or virtual courses published during this period.

      31 December 2025

      • Record and edit video remarks or presentations from PAHO experts, and capsules or PSAs produced in house.
      • Create flyers to promote webinars and virtual events organized by NMH
      • Design the monthly NMH newsletter and a special issue on the 2025 achievements.
      • Drafting or editing web notes, social media posts, talking points and other written materials related to the International Day of the Prevention of Violence Against Women, and Disabilities Day (such as infographics, factsheets, short videos, interviews or stories, and key messages).
      • Draft web notes and announcements on the new publications related to Violence Against Women.
      • Draft web notes, social media posts and announcements on the new publications or virtual courses published during this period.

      Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, information sciences, media studies, communications or related degree, from a recognized university.

      Languages: communication abilities in English and in Spanish

      Duration: 1 June 2025 – 31 December 2025

      PayScale: PAHO Band B US$5,166 - US$6,273
