- Project manage the design and development of automotive manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment in line with manufacturing planning assumptions for new model introductions
- Assess feasibility of new models and associated requirements / processes for introduction into the Solihull paint facility considering cost, quality and timing. Where incompatibilities arise, collaborate with the required stakeholders to agree the optimum solution for the business
- Selection, management, and liaising with key suppliers (tooling, paint materials, facility vendors, etc.)
- Support all aspects of programme and launch activities at Solihull Paint Shop - such as process / manufacturing system design and development, the organising and running of design reviews and problem solving
- Support the Manufacturing teams to optimise Hours Per Car and Cost per Unit
- Deployment of quality management system processes and procedures to support Plant accreditation
- Support the development of process concepts in line with Bill of Process and Design for Manufacturing principles
- Support the programme lead engineer to ensure all project objectives and deliverables are completed when required
- Apply project management techniques to develop and control schedule, cost, risk and change management in line with manufacturing launch strategies
- Utilise the use of automotive engineering tools such as FMEA, Control Plans, and Capability studies
- Manage progress and drive resolution of issues through project design to final buy-off, escalating where appropriate
- Ensure value for money solutions are sought for all engineering changes, product and facility driven
- Support PDL (Programme Direction Letters) assessments and ensure they are responded to clearly and effectively to support business decisions.
- Create all written process documentation to support new model launches to support Production operator training
- Support the “Are We Ready” status in support of prebuilds and production ramp up
- Ensure new model implications are understood and can be handled within paint operations without negative impact to any of the key SQDCPE metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Environment)
- Preparation and management of all Launch Quality Operating System deliverables and launch performance metrics
- Knowledge of paint facilities & systems
- A sound engineering and manufacturing background with experience in developing, managing, and improving manufacturing processes
- Ability to analyse the needs of both internal and external customers
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Have a working knowledge of the application of lean manufacturing tools and techniques
- Budget development and management
- Knowledge and experience of Process Authoring and shop floor work instructions, FMEA and Control plans
- Conversant with issue management systems, engineering release systems and quality analysis databases
- Ability to interrogate external warranty data, internal First Time Through, customer quality analysis data and generate strategies to drive necessary improvements
- Good knowledge of Microsoft tools
- Enthusiastic self-starter with the confidence and ability to work on own initiative
- Experience of using CAD design and CATIA V5 / Teamcenter
- Basic understanding of ergonomics
- Knowledge of design for manufacture (DFM) principles
- Knowledge of the final assembly process
- Black Belt/Green Belt Six Sigma qualified
- Degree in manufacturing or engineering discipline is highly desirable

WHAT TO EXPECT
The Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Paint team are responsible for the planning and implementation of Paint processes, tooling and facilities for New Model introductions, Model Year changes and Non-Product Capital Investment projects. We support new product development from early concept, working alongside Product Engineering throughout the virtual series, into prototype builds, equipment procurement, installations, and vehicle launch. We are also responsible for the strategy development for future materials, process, technology and production facilities in support of Modern Luxury and Sustainability in line with science-based targets and VOC legislation.
This role at Solihull will be part of the Solihull Paint Process and Programmes group to support the plan and deliver all new models, model years, colour introductions, process optimisations and launch activities for all vehicles and new paint work areas at the Solihull Plant. The successful candidate will work alongside the rest of the Manufacturing Engineering Paint team across our global locations to deliver on the total ME Paint objectives.
