      Summary

      Responsible for supporting the Legal Department on a variety of matters while working collaboratively with other departments in a team-oriented environment.

      Key Roles & Responsibilities

      Directly or through others, the incumbent:

      • Under attorney supervision, gather and prepare documents relevant to a deposition and/or hearing, organize exhibits, and digest transcripts to summarize highlights of a proceeding.
      • Communicate with court clerks and coordinators and fulfill requests from outside counsel.
      • Review non-party subpoena requests and retrieve responsive records from various company departments and sources; conduct the redaction, bates numbering, duplication and indexing of said records; prepare responses and/or objections to the subpoena; complete Business Records Affidavit for authentication of subpoena records.
      • Prepare documents for electronic and paper copy production which includes redacting, bates numbering, duplicating and indexing.
      • Maintain and update the litigation spreadsheet and database to be used for tracking financials, assisting with internal meetings and providing statistics regarding lawsuits.
      • Maintain calendars; coordinates meetings and travel arrangements; completes expense reports.
      • Work with attorneys in the preparation of court documents and accompany attorneys to court, hearings and jury trials.
      • Oversee and manage the intake process for all documents (lawsuits, subpoenas, letters of representation, etc.) served via Oncor’s registered agent.
      • Prepare submit and track litigation hold memos regarding anticipated and pending litigation.
      • Calculate and calendar deadlines, schedule meetings and depositions and process incoming mail and emails.
      • Work with Claims Department to obtain claim files for litigation matters.
      • Oversee the department’s legal spend by facilitating the approval of invoices, setting up new vendors as needed in FIM, maintaining a spreadsheet of all invoices paid, providing monthly accruals to the financial department and communicating with outside counsel and vendors regarding invoice issues.
      • Under the guidance of an attorney, categorize documents by subject matter and prepare a chronology of facts.
      • Review discovery requests; coordinate with appropriate business individuals to collect relevant documents and prepare draft responses and objections.
      • Assist in the preparation and submitting of monthly and quarterly reports to Oncor’s insurance carriers and parent company regarding significant litigation updates.
      • Organize and maintain a filing system for management of records.
      • Other duties as assigned when required.

                Education, Experience, & Skills

                • High School diploma, GED or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred
                • Substantial litigation paralegal experience with extensive knowledge and experience in discovery is preferred.
                • Experience within a well-established law firm and/or corporate legal department is highly preferred.
                • Proficient with the Texas e-Filing system and Courts’ websites.
                • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a high attention to detail.
                • Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT and Outlook
                • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at many different levels throughout the company.
