      Job Description

      Ares is seeking a highly organized, quick-thinking and proactive Paralegal to join the Ares Legal team, specifically, the Investment Legal team in Los Angeles covering Ares’ Opportunistic Credit, Private Equity and U.S. Liquid Credit investment strategies (the “OPEL Legal Team”). The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment requiring mental agility and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and shifting priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. The Paralegal will provide day-to-day support to the OPEL Legal Team with respect to a variety of recurring tasks and discrete projects.

      Primary Functions and Responsibilities

      The Paralegal will be charged with facilitating the efficient functioning of the OPEL Legal team to enable the timely delivery of high-quality legal services to investment professionals and other functional groups (finance/accounting, investor relations, compliance, etc.) in Los Angeles, New York and Europe.

      Critical tasks include:

      • Review and advise on non-disclosure agreement (“NDA”) terms, both receiving-side and sharing-side.
      • Prepare and negotiate joinders to NDAs.
      • Coordinate workflow with external counsel for high volume of NDAs.
      • Review and negotiate non-reliance letters and access letters.
      • Assist with consulting agreement workflow.
      • Collaborate with Compliance team to clear conflicts on investment opportunities.
      • Assist with corporate, regulatory and other filings.
      • Assist with improving standard forms / precedents and processes.
      • Assist with knowledge management relating to a variety of data relevant to legal workflows.
      • Assist with entity management process, including entity formations, dissolutions, governmental filings and regulatory compliance.
      • Assist with director and officer documentation at entities, including resolutions and incumbency certificates.
      • Validate and enrich entity information in the firmwide entity database.
      • Prepare entity structure charts.
      • Review and allocate entity maintenance invoices.
      • Assist with new entity and fund onboarding and account openings.
      • Ensure our legal records are highly organized and complete so documents are easily accessible to users when needed.
      • Assist with inbound Know Your Customer, Anti-Money Laundering and other legal/regulatory information requests.

      Qualifications

      Education/Certification

      • Bachelor’s degree required.
      • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program or equivalent qualification required.
      • Notary public preferred.

      Experience

      • Minimum of 2 years of experience functioning as a paralegal.
      • Substantive experience working within a regulated industry, at a law firm or in an in-house legal department is required. A background in asset management (private equity and/or private credit, specifically) is valued.

      Requirements

      • Skilled with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office Suite and other MS Office software products.
      • Experience with GEMS or other entity data management or analytics software is a plus.
      • Experience with DealCloud or other deal pipeline management software is a plus.
      • Experience with Asana or other workflow management software is a plus.
      • Outstanding organizational skills.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Strong time-management and prioritization skills. Able to successfully manage multiple priorities and competing demands.
      • Thrives working autonomously in a dynamic, collaborative and fast-paced environment—demonstrating flexibility, resiliency and proactivity.

      Reporting Relationships

      Compensation

      The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

      $90,000 - $105,000
