      Introduction

      Within the professional services environment, the application of risk management procedures is fundamental to the successful delivery of our client services and promotion of our brand. Risk management encompasses the technical support and processes which underpin the delivery of service quality, contain the threat of litigation, limit damage to our reputation and seek to achieve full fee recovery.

      At Ernst & Young ("EY"), the Risk Management (RM) group is responsible for the promotion and support of risk management within the business. RM's aim is to uphold our business standards, maintain and enhance the value of the firm, and ensure that the UK&I firm complies with the rules and regulations imposed either by external regulators or by Ernst & Young Global in relation to the conduct of our business.

      The Data Protection team is responsible for supporting the UK firm in the execution of and compliance with Global, Regional and local data protection laws and regulations, policies and procedures and the development, maintenance, communication and training of key data protection policies, providing advice on complex matters and monitoring the application of these policies. The Data Protection teams sits within the Central Risk Management team consisting of a Risk Management Partner, Chief Compliance Officer, a Financial Crime Director, a Compliance Director, Data Protection Officer and supporting managers and associates.

      The Opportunity:

      This is an exciting opportunity for a paralegal to support EY’s Data Protection team including the firm’s Data Protection lawyer and Data Protection Officer to ensure that key legal responsibilities are delivered, and compliance requirements are met.       Key Responsibilities

      As a paralegal, you will be a key part of the Data Protection team, responsible for ensuring the UK firm complies with data protection law and regulation and providing support across the UK&I region.

      You will:

      • Demonstrate an understanding of relevant legal matters for a business like EY, including the requirements to comply with data protection laws.
      • Be able to plan and manage your workload, adjusting to the demands or requirements from the colleagues you are supporting.
      • Keep colleagues and key stakeholders up to date on your activities; planning, managing, maintaining trackers and reports as required, diarising deadlines and planning work to deadlines; always keeping on top of compliance requirements and best practice. You will use standard office software and tools to achieve these aims.
      • Be able to read legal text, understand and advise on this; support and use your common sense, to offer a point of view; providing written responses in well written English, without jargon.
      • Assist with legal documents, advice notes, process management, disputes/ litigation, or investigations e.g., from a regulator; support on business projects, keeping up to date with data protection and other relevant legal requirements for EY.
      • Support the Data Protection lawyer and team to be a high performing team; inspiring others around you, helping the team to identify the core of a problem quickly, to navigate legal requirements and issues, whilst supporting colleagues to achieve their goals to drive the business forward.
      • Performing front line data protection compliance work in areas such as: data subject requests, data incident handling, requests to access data, privacy impact assessments.
      • Other tasks, as directed by the Data Protection lawyer, Data Protection Officer and Risk Director.

      • A great communicator with sound interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication, you can influence business stakeholders.
      • Able to produce user-friendly advice or documents, be a good listener, be a collaborative team member and to offer leadership or ideas when required.

      To qualify for the role, you must have:

      • Excellent academics
      • Relevant prior legal and data protection experience
      • A keen interest for data protection

      Ideally, you will be:

      • A graduate, most likely a law graduate or someone with equivalent experience, for example, you will have a non-law degree followed by the GDL plus, LPC (or BPTC).
