- Providing project management and other paralegal support to legal counsel serving JHR government clients involved in the regulation of cannabis, liquor, gaming, civil forfeiture, victim services and other BC government areas
- Managing documents and document production/disclosure;
- Conducting legal research;
- Drafting, reviewing and managing legal documents and correspondence, including reviewing draft reports and cross referencing with templates as well as drafting chronologies and evidence outlines;
- Assisting and liaising with clients as directed by legal counsel
- Paralegal Certificate, Paralegal Diploma or Paralegal Degree from a recognized institution. Note that a Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree may be considered as an equivalent to a Paralegal Certificate. Candidates will be required to provide proof of completion of a Paralegal Certificate, Paralegal Diploma, Paralegal Degree, Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree.
- Experience working as a paralegal or equivalent
- Experience working as a paralegal or equivalent in a government environment
- Experience managing documents and document production and disclosure
- Experience providing paralegal support to counsel practicing regulatory/administrative law
- Experience conducting legal research
- Experience drafting, reviewing and managing legal documents and both internal and external correspondence
- Experience assisting and liaising with clients as directed by legal counsel
- More years of experience in any of the above preferred experiences.
The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB’s clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.
This posting is to establish an eligibility list for future permanent and/or temporary vacancies for full-time Paralegals to work with the Justice, Health and Revenue Group (JHR), providing assistance to lawyers. JHR includes solicitors, barristers, paralegals, and administrative professionals who conduct litigation, advise administrative decision makers and investigators and provide related advice on behalf of the Province.
