      The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB’s clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.

      We are seeking a full-time Paralegal to work with the Justice, Health and Revenue Group, providing assistance to lawyers working with the Ministry of Health Billing Integrity Program. The paralegal position will be supporting lawyers who conduct mediations and hearings with practitioners for recovery of possible inappropriate billings to the Medical Services Plan.

      Job Requirements:

      • Secondary school graduation and completion of a recognized Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent, and
      • Two years of experience in a legal office environment.

      * An advanced legal degree, such as a law degree may be considered as an equivalent to the Paralegal Certificate.

      Preference may be given to candidates who:

      • Offer document management experience, including experience with document review and producing a list of documents.
      • Have experience and familiarity with the Supreme Court Rules, including rules generally applicable to tribunals, and the rules of natural justice as they pertain to document disclosure.
      • Have experience as a paralegal supporting an administrative law practice.

      About this Position:
      There is currently one (1) permanent position available.
      An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent and/or temporary vacancies.
      This position is excluded from union membership.
      This position can be based in the location as noted above.
      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
