- Prescribe, issue and review medications as appropriate following policy, patient group directives, NICE (national) and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways. This will be done in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.
- Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment and or interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis, and patients with complex needs within the clinical and domiciliary setting.
- Implement and participate in vaccination programmes as appropriate.
- Enhance their own performance through continuous professional development, keeping up to date with current evidence-based practice.
- Recognise and work within their own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the HCPC and College of Paramedics.
- Assess effectiveness of care delivery through self and peer review, benchmarking, and formal evaluation.
- Utilise the audit cycle as a means of evaluating the quality of the work of their own work and the work of the team. Implementing improvements where required.
- In partnership with other clinical teams, collaborate on improving the quality of healthcare responding to local and national policies and initiatives as appropriate.
- Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.
- Produce accurate, contemporaneous, and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
- Work in accordance with internal administrative systems relating to but not limited to the management of clinical data.

Job summary

This role will be directly employed by South Wight Medical Practice.
Contract: Full time, Permanent
Salary: from £44,000 - £47,000 per annum depending on experience

As a Paramedic in South Wight Medical Practice, you will play a crucial role in providing essential medical care to patients in a primary care setting. You will work closely with our medical team with a holistic approach ensuring that patients receive timely and effective care. You will be responsible for triaging, assessing, and treating patients both in the Practice, on the telephone, and in patient homes.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to co-ordinate the on the day demand by assessing and triaging practice patients. Where appropriate, you will provide definitive treatment, or make necessary referrals to other members of the practice team.
You will advise and support the Practice in providing education and management to patients on long-term conditions.

South Wight Medical Practice is the only dispensing GP Practice on the Isle of Wight. Our rural Practice is based over 3 sites, and we care for a population of 6000 patients. We make up one third of the South PCN.

This role will involve working as an autonomous, accountable Paramedic, in the provision of a holistic approach for patients including assessment, diagnosis and treatment to deliver quality patient services.
The post holder will coordinate telephone triage, taking clinical responsibility for all patients who have requested an urgent appointment. They will assess, diagnose, treat, refer, or signpost patients presenting with undifferentiated or undiagnosed conditions relating to minor illness or minor injury.
The post holder will be required to perform any other clinical and clinical administrative duties where appropriately trained and determined safe to do so by the organisation. This may include assisting with medical reports, safeguarding, audit and clinic support.
