      About the position

      Supervise and provide recreational experiences for youth participating in the summer playground program and youth athletic programs and Mobile Rec Program- Park ‘N’ Play in St. Louis Park.

      Position is seasonal and runs June – August 2024, working 30-40 hours per week. Mobile Rec program runs into fall until October. Hours in fall are 8-10 hours a week; after school.
      • Provide recreational experiences for children a variety of ages participating in the Summer Playgrounds, Camps and Mobile Rec Park’N’ Play programs. Interact with children through games, crafts, and sports.
      • Provide supervision and discipline of participants attending the Summer Playgrounds, Camps, and Mobile Rec Park ‘N’ Play program and ensure their safety.
      • Assist Program Coordinators in preparing supplies and equipment for daily use, document supplies needing replacement and set up/take down site areas.
      • Attend weekly staff meetings on time with necessary materials.
      • Attend preseason orientation and post season evaluation meetings.
      • Ability to communicate with parents, site staff and the public.
      • At least 15 years of age or previous experience as a park activities leader or Junior Leader Volunteer.
      • Ability to:
        • Interact and develop rapport with children of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
        • Engage those children in a variety of active and passive park activities/youth athletics.
        • Work with other park activities leaders, junior leader volunteers and coordinators/youth coaches effectively and in harmony.
        • Ability and experience working with and relating to children a variety of ages.
        • Knowledge or course work in child development, parks and recreation, education, or related athletic sport.
        • Self-starter.
        • Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city’s strategic objectives for advancing racial equity.
        • Has a valid MN driver's license.
