Job Description

- Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver's license.
- Possession of CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Possession of Chemical Agents and Basic Baton Course Certifications.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within three (3) months, certification of completion of training course in arrest and firearms (Penal Code 832), which also includes a physical agility test component.
- Health Insurance - Eligible to receive a City contribution of $755.00 or $1,724.00 to help offset health, dental and vision premiums. Eligible employees who waive all medical, dental, vision, supplemental life, and supplemental AD&D benefits will receive an annual "Health Insurance Waiver Stipend" of $3,500.00 every first paycheck of December.
- Retirement for Current Members - For employees hired after 1/1/2013 who are current members of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12 and have not been separated from service from such agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% @ 55; highest single year of compensation.
- Retirement for New Members - For employees hired 1/1/2013 or later and who are not a member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12, or those who have been separated from a public agency which contracts with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% @ 62; 3 year final compensation. New members will be obligated to pay 50% of the “normal cost” of their retirement benefits as required by State law.

The Park Ranger Supervisor position with the City of San Bernardino is a non-safety position.All appointments to this position are subject to the successful completion of an in-depth background investigation conducted by the San Bernardino Police Department.
The Position:
Under general direction, plans, coordinates, supervises, and administers the daily operations of Park Ranger Section staff in the Recreation & Park Department; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Additionally, comfort in collaborating with law enforcement and fire officials is required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Park Ranger Supervisor is the working supervisor level position and is distinguished from the Park Ranger by the assignment of full-scope supervision over Park Rangers and other subordinate personnel, and the responsibility to intervene in the more difficult and complex park ranger issues and exercise discretionary authority to bring matters to resolution Duties for this classification require specialized skills to enforce applicable City ordinances, government codes, and state laws relating to the use of parks and public facilities in the city.

High school Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent AND two (2) years of progressively responsible park maintenance, park ranger, public recreation, or law enforcement experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Lead or supervisory experience is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle and feel computers and standard business equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is equally required to stand and walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl; safely operate power tools and equipment; drive motorized vehicles; work in heavy traffic conditions, lift up to 40 pounds, and work in an environment with constant interruptions. The employee must be able to hear within the normal audio range, with or without correction. The employee may be required to ride a bicycle for some park patrol functions.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shapes, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. See in the normal visual range, with or without correction; vision sufficient to read small print, computer screens and other printed documents.
The employee will work in outside weather conditions, is exposed to wet conditions, and street/road traffic. The employee is periodically exposed to loud noise levels and may work in situations that may expose the employee to fumes or airborne particles, electrical and/or mechanical hazards.
The employee must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, day/night, and swing shift.City Benefits
